Cycling At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Sprint
The men's cycle sport, cycling Sprint (track cycling), sprint at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012 Olympic Games in London took place at the London Velopark from 4 to 6 August. There were 17 competitors from 17 nations, with nations once again limited to one cyclist each (the limit had fluctuated between one and two since 1928). The event was won by Jason Kenny of Great Britain, the nation's second consecutive victory in the men's sprint. Kenny was the eighth man to win multiple medals in the event. Kenny beat Grégory Baugé of France at the 2012 Summer Olympics, France in the final. Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Australia's Shane Perkins took bronze. Background This was the 25th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics except 1904 and 1912. London Velopark
Lee Valley VeloPark is a cycling centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, England. It is owned and managed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, and it was opened to the public in March 2014. The facility was one of the permanent venues for the 2012 2012 Summer Olympics, Olympic and 2012 Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games. Lee Valley VeloPark is at the northern end of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It has an indoor velodrome and a BMX racing track, which have been used for the Games, as well as a one-mile (1.6 km) road bicycle racing, road course and 5 miles (8 km) of Trail#Bicycle trail, mountain bike trails. The park replaces the Eastway Cycle Circuit demolished to make way for it. The facilities built for the Olympics were constructed between 2009 and 2011. Bernard Esterhuizen
Bernard Esterhuizen (born 4 October 1992) is a South African track cyclist. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's sprint. He was a precocious cyclist, and began racing on the track from the age of eight, inspired by his father’s world master’s championship titles. Beginning in 2009, Esterhuizen was based at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland. He specialized in sprints, being noted for his “explosive racing” in shorter distances. Njisane Nicholas Phillip (born 29 May 1991) is a former Trinidadian track cyclist active from 2010 until 2019. Born in Siparia, he competed for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where he achieved a fourth place finish in the individual sprint, as well as at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games. and at several Pan American Games and Championships. Edward James Dawkins (born 11 July 1989) is a New Zealand track cyclist. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games he won the silver medal in the men's sprint and the bronze medal in the men's 1 kilometre time trial. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, he won the bronze medal in the men's sprint, and was part of the New Zealand time that won the gold medal in the team sprint, with Ethan Mitchell and Sam Webster.
