The 16 competitors who advanced from the qualification were divided into 4 quarterfinal heats of 4 skier each. The two best competitors in each quarterfinal advanced to the semifinal. The two best competitors in each semifinal advanced to the A Final competing for gold, silver, bronze and fourth place. Soldier Hollow
Soldier Hollow is a cross-country ski venue located at the mouth of a hollow of the same name about southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch Mountain State Park in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The venue was created for the 2002 Winter Olympics and hosted the biathlon, cross-country skiing, and the cross country skiing portion of the Nordic combined events, a role it is expected to reprise for the 2034 Winter Olympics. Since hosting the Olympics, it has been developed as a cross-country skiing, tubing, and snowshoeing venue, while featuring mountain biking and golfing in the summer. Trond Einar Elden
Trond Einar Elden (born 21 February 1970) is a Norwegian former Nordic combined skier who represented Namdalseid IL. He competed at three Winter Olympics. At the 1989 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, he became the youngest world champion ever, fifteen days after his nineteenth birthday. At Falun in 1993, he won a bronze medal in the 15 km individual event. Additionally, Elden won two medals in the 3 × 10 km team event at the Nordic skiing world championships with a gold in 1989 and a silver in 1993. Elden also won the Nordic combined event twice at the Holmenkollen ski festival (1989, 1991). In 1991, Elden received the Holmenkollen medal (which he shared with Vegard Ulvang, Ernst Vettori, and Jens Weißflog). Jörgen Brink
Jörgen Brink (born 10 March 1974 in Delsbo, Hälsingland) is a retired Swedish cross-country skier and biathlete who has competed since 1994. He earned three bronze medals at the 2003 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme (10 km + 10 km double pursuit, 50 km, and 4 × 10 km relay). Brink's best finish at the Winter Olympics was a 24th in the individual sprint in 2002. He won eleven FIS races from 1995 to 2006 at all distances. On 7 March 2010 he won the 90 km ski marathon race Vasaloppet, beating Daniel Tynell to the finishing line by a very narrow margin. Brink's winning time was 4 hours, 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Hannu Kalevi Manninen (born 17 April 1978 in Rovaniemi) is a Finnish nordic combined athlete.
