Cranfield is a village and civil parish in the west of Bedfordshire, England, situated between Bedford and Milton Keynes. It had a population of 4,909 in 2001. increasing to 5,369 at the 2011 census. The parish is in Central Bedfordshire unitary authority. It is best known for being the home of Cranfield University and Cranfield Airport (an airfield). The hamlet of Bourne End is located just north of Cranfield, and is part of the civil parish. Wharley End was a separate settlement, but now forms the northern part of Cranfield village, by the university. Amenities Cranfield has two public houses, a football club, coffee shop, dog grooming salon, hairdressers, barbers, several take-away restaurants, two small supermarkets and two car dealerships. Central Bedfordshire is a Districts of England, local government district in the ceremonial county of Bedfordshire, England. It is administered by Central Bedfordshire Council, a Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority. It was created in 2009. Morgan Motor Company Limited is a British automobile, motor car manufacturer owned by a British investment group Investindustrial. Morgan was founded in 1910 by H. F. S. Cranfield Court Cranfield Court was a country house in Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England. It belonged to the Harter family. The last house at the site was Elizabethan, and designed by Thomas Chambers Hine of Nottingham for Reverend G. G. Harter in 1862–4. In 1912 the house was described as "a large modern red-brick building with Bath stone dressings, in the French Gothic style". At that time it belonged to the widow of James Francis Hatfield Harter. Harter had served as the Justice of the Peace for Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, and was High Sheriff of Bedfordshire in 1885. The house, which was compared to Battlesden House in style, was later demolished.
