Craig Frost
Craig Frost (born April 20, 1948) is an American musician who rose to prominence as a member of the rock band Grand Funk Railroad, which he joined in 1973 after working with them the previous year.Craig was credited as additional personnel on their 1972 album '' Phoenix.'' With the release of their follow album, Frost had joined the group and was credited as a member of Grand Funk. He plays organ, synthesizers and piano. Frost expanded Grand Funk's "power trio" musical style by adding another aspect to their music. Grand Funk experienced their most success with Frost after he joined the band in 1973, and his recognizable work on their popular hit songs "The Loco-Motion" (Little Eva cover) and " We're an American Band". He also contributed significantly to Grand Funk as a songwriter, in partnership with drummer Don Brewer. Melvin George Schacher (born April 8, 1951) is an American musician who is the bassist and a founding member of the hard rock band Grand Funk Railroad. Early life Schacher was born in Owosso, Michigan, and was raised in Flint, Michigan. He became interested in music at the age of seven playing with his father's banjo. By age twelve he had moved to playing guitar and then bass. By age fourteen, Schacher was part of a trio playing mostly wedding receptions and talent competitions while playing with other local bands. Don Brewer
Donald George Brewer (born September 3, 1948) is an American drummer and singer who is a founding member and longtime original drummer of the rock band Grand Funk Railroad. Early life Brewer was born in Flint, Michigan, on September 3, 1948, the son of Clara Eileen (née Waterman) and Donald A. Brewer, and is a graduate of Swartz Creek High School. Early career Brewer started his first band, called The Red Devils, at the age of 12. After leaving The Red Devils, Brewer formed another band named the Jazzmasters for whom he played drums and sang. In 1964, Brewer joined former DJ Terry Knight as well as bassist Herm Jackson, guitarist Curt Johnson, and keyboardist Bobby Caldwell and formed the band Terry Knight and the Pack. In 1966, he experienced his first top 40 hit with "I (Who Have Nothing)". Bob Seger
Robert Clark Seger ( ; born May 6, 1945) is a retired American singer, songwriter, and musician. As a locally successful Detroit-area artist, he performed and recorded with the groups Bob Seger and the Last Heard and the Bob Seger System throughout the 1960s, breaking through with his first album, '' Ramblin' Gamblin' Man'' (which contained his first national hit of the same name) in 1969. By the early 1970s, he had dropped the 'System' from his recordings and continued to strive for broader success with various other bands. "We're an American Band" is a song by American Rock music, rock band Grand Funk Railroad. Released on July 2, 1973, from the band's We're an American Band, album of the same name, it became the band's first single to top the ''Billboard'' charts. Written by Don Brewer and produced by Todd Rundgren, its huge chart success broadened Grand Funk's appeal. In a 2023 interview, Brewer said the song, which stitches together snippets of events from the band's touring life, was written in an effort to garner the band more hits as FM radio stations were transitioning into singles-oriented formats. According to Brewer, the song was not a rebuke to British band Humble Pie, who Grand Funk had previously toured with. It is the 99th song on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs.
