Cotswold Chase
The Cotswold Chase is a Grade 2 National Hunt racing, National Hunt steeplechase (horse racing), steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to Horse racing, horses aged five years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse, Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles and 1½ furlongs (3 miles 1 furlong and 156 yards, or 5,172 metres), and during its running there are twenty-one fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place each year in January. The race was first run in 1980 as the Tote Double Chase, later the Timeform Hall of Fame Chase. The event serves as a trial for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which takes place at the same venue in March. It is held during Festival Trials Day, which features several other trials for races at the Cheltenham Festival. National Hunt Racing, also known as Jump Racing, is a form of horse racing particular to many European countries, including, but not limited to: France, horse racing in Great Britain, Great Britain and horse racing in Ireland, Ireland. Jump Racing requires horses to jump over fences and ditches. Sibton Abbey (horse)
Sibton Abbey, an early Cistercian abbey located in Sibton near Yoxford, Suffolk, was founded about 1150 by William de Chesney, High Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk. The Abbey is a daughter house of Warden Abbey, near Bedford, Bedfordshire. It was the only Cistercian abbey in East Anglia. It was dissolved in 1536. The foundation legend A medieval narrative of the abbey's foundation told, that Walter de Cadomo (i.e. Walter de Caen) came to England in the time of the Conqueror with Robert Malet, Lord of the Honour of Eye and High Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk, and Walter held the Barony of Horsford (not really a barony but a large group of landholdings centred upon Horsford Castle in Norfolk) from him as from the Honour of Eye. Charles Patrick Evelyn Brooks (born 3 March 1963) is a British socialite, newspaper columnist, racehorse trainer and former amateur jockey. He is best known as the husband of Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News UK. Peter Michael Scudamore MBE (born 29 June 1958), often known as 'Scu', is a trainer and former jockey in National Hunt racing. He was an eight-time Champion Jockey (including one title shared with John Francome), riding 1,678 winning horses in his career. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to National Hunt Racing in the 1990 Birthday Honours. Early life Scudamore was born in June 1958 to jockey Michael Scudamore and his wife Mary. Michael Scudamore won the 1959 Grand National on Oxo, when his son was still a baby. Jenny Pitman
Jennifer Susan Pitman OBE (''née'' Harvey, born 11 June 1946 "Jenny Pitman, The Autobiography") is a British former racehorse trainer and author. She became the first woman to train a Grand National winner when Corbiere won the race in 1983, and she won a second Grand National with Royal Athlete in 1995. She has also trained two Cheltenham Gold Cup winners with Burrough Hill Lad in 1984 and Garrison Savanah in 1991. Following her retirement from horse training in 1998, she became a writer of novels, principally with a racing theme. Dick “Toby” Tobias (February 12, 1932 – June 23, 1978) was an American stock car and sprint car racing driver from Lebanon, Pennsylvania. He revolutionized the dirt track modified stock car class by producing a chassis constructed of tubular steel. Racing career Toby Tobias began his racing career in the early 1950's at the Hilltop Speedway in Pennsylvania. He then spent the majority of his career racing in the sprint and modified divisions competing at the renowned tracks of the northeast, including the Nazareth Speedway and the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway in Pennsylvania, and the Flemington Speedway in New Jersey. Tobias made just one appearances in the NASCAR Cup Series. In 1972, Tobias developed a workable home-built frame for his Modified that replaced the mid 50's Chevy frames rails that had been popular.
