Cornwallis, Manitoba (rural Municipality)
Cornwallis is a rural municipality located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It surrounds the east, south and west sides of Brandon, Manitoba. Most of the land comprising the municipality is farmland, but it contains a few settlements. One of the larger settlements, Sprucewoods, sits at the north gate of Canadian Forces Base Shilo and contains a large portion of the municipal population. In the past, there has been friction between the community and the farming base that make up much of Cornwallis. The municipality is divided into six wards, each represented by one councillor. The council is made up of the six councillors and the reeve, or head of council. A Rural municipality (Canada), rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. CFB Shilo
Canadian Forces Base Shilo (CFB Shilo; ) is an operations and training base of the Canadian Armed Forces, located east of Brandon, Manitoba, Brandon, Manitoba and adjacent to Sprucewoods. During the 1990s, Canadian Forces base, Canadian Forces Base Shilo was also designated as an Area Support Unit, which acts as a local base of operations for south-west Manitoba in times of military and civil emergency.
