Craig Cormick
Craig Cormick is an Australian science communicator and author. He was born in Wollongong in 1961, and is known for his creative writing and social research into public attitudes towards new technologies. He has lived mainly in Canberra, but has also lived in Iceland (1980–81) and Finland (1984–85). He has published over 40 books of fiction and non-fiction, and numerous articles in refereed journals. He has been active in the Canberra writing community, teaching and editing, was Chair of the ACT Writers Centre from 2003 to 2008 and in 2006 was Writer in Residence at the University of Science in Penang, Malaysia. William Cormick
William Cormick (born 1822, Tabriz; died 30 December 1877), was a British physician of Irish origin in Qajar Iran during the reigns of Mohammad Shah Qajar (1834–1848) and Naser al-Din Shah Qajar (1848–1896). He is noted for having played an important role in the diffusion of Western medicine into Iranian society. He is also noted as the only westerner to have met the Báb. Biography Education William Cormick was born in Tabriz to the British physician of Irish origin John Cormick and a local Armenian woman. Having been sent to England at the age of ten in order to gain an education, he was subsequently enrolled into the medical faculty of the University College of London. He received his qualification as a member of the Royal College of Surgeons on 17July 1840. A year later he was admitted into membership of the Society of Apothecaries, as well as being awarded a doctors degree in medicine from St. Andrew's in London. Cornick ( fil, kornik) is a Filipino deep-fried crunchy puffed corn nut snack. It is most commonly garlic-flavored but can also come in a variety of other flavors. It is traditionally made with glutinous corn. Description Cornick is made by soaking corn kernels in water for three days, changing the water used for soaking daily. The corn used is traditionally glutinous corn (''mais malagkit'' or ''mais pilit''), but other types of corn can also be used, including popcorn. After soaking, the kernels are drained and dried thoroughly. It is then deep-fried in oil at about , to ensure that the kernels do not pop. It is cooked for around two to three minutes then drained on paper towels. Cornick is traditionally seasoned with salt and toasted garlic. Commercial variants come in a larger aray of flavors including adobo, chili, cheese, and barbecue flavors.
