Controller (Misery Signals Album)
''Controller'' is the third studio album by American-Canadian metalcore band Misery Signals and was released July 22, 2008. The album was recorded by producer Devin Townsend who produced Misery Signals' debut record ''Of Malice, and the Magnum Heart''. On April 28, 2008, Misery Signals posted their first single for ''Controller'' called "Weight of the World". Bassist, Kyle Johnson said "It was the first song we recorded for the new album and it's a different song for us, it's little angrier, faster and actually the shortest song clocking in at a little over two minutes." Vocalist Karl Schubach goes onto say "It was the first song we tracked and Devin Townsend (Producer) had me run through the entire song once just to get down the idea of where I wanted to go. He told me that I nailed it right off the bat and we ended up keeping most of it as the finished version. Misery Signals
Misery Signals was an American-Canadian metalcore band formed in Wisconsin in 2002. History Formation (2002–2003) Misery Signals was formed after the disbanding of several bands, including 7 Angels 7 Plagues, Hamartia, and Compromise. Having played briefly with 7 Angels 7 Plagues, former Compromise vocalist, Jesse Zaraska, was approached by Ryan Morgan and Kyle Johnson for a new project which would become Misery Signals. Jeff Aust from Hamartia joined on as second guitar and Ryan Morgan's brother Branden joined as the band's drummer. Aust soon left the band and has since gone on to join With Honor. He was replaced by Stu Ross, a friend of Jesse Zaraska's from St. Albert, Alberta. In 2003 the band released its eponymous debut EP. The EP was dedicated to the memory of Jordan Wodehouse and Daniel Langlois, who were killed by a drunk driver on Interstate 20 near Heflin, Alabama while on tour with their band Compromise in support of 7 Angels 7 Plagues. Progressive metalcore (also called technical metalcore or ambient metalcore) is a fusion of progressive metal and metalcore characterized by highly technical lead guitar, "atmospheric" elements, and complex instrumentation. Ferret Music
Ferret Music was an American independent record label turned Warner Music Group subsidiary, founded in 1996. The label is owned by metalcore band NORA's vocalist, Carl Severson, and based in West Windsor, New Jersey. Ferret recently started an imprint called New Weathermen Records. Warner Music Group's Alternative Distribution Alliance acquired a stake in Ferret Music in August, 2006, and as a result is currently distributed by Fontana Distribution, Alternative Distribution Alliance and eOne Music. As of September 12, 2007, Ferret partnered with an uprising extreme metal and hardcore punk label out of the UK, Siege of Amida Records (S.O.A.R.). S.O.A.R will retain A&R responsibilities. Devin Townsend
Devin Garrett Townsend (born May 5, 1972) is a Canadian singer, guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. He founded extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad and was its primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist from 1994 to 2007. He has also had an extensive solo career and has released a total of 29 albums across all of his projects as of 2024. After performing in a number of heavy metal music, heavy metal bands in high school, Townsend was discovered in 1993 by a record label who asked him to perform lead vocals on Steve Vai's album ''Sex & Religion''. After recording and touring with Vai, he was discouraged by what he found in the music industry and vented his anger on his 1995 solo album ''Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing'', which he released under the pseudonym Strapping Young Lad. ''Mirrors'' is the second full-length album by American-Canadian metalcore band Misery Signals. It was released through Ferret Records on August 22, 2006. It is the first album to feature new vocalist Karl Schubach, who joined the band after previous vocalist Jesse Zaraska left. Overview During touring for the band's debut album, '' Of Malice and the Magnum Heart'', tension started to form between vocalist Jesse Zaraska and the other members. Once touring for the album was completed, Zaraska was asked to leave the band. Zaraska would return to Edmonton and form the post-rock band Sleeping Girl with members of his former band Compromise. He would be replaced by Karl Schubach. Schubach was chosen after the band posted an instrumental song online, inviting fans to write lyrics and perform vocals for the song. ''Absent Light'' is the fourth studio album by American-Canadian metalcore band Misery Signals and was released on July 23, 2013. The album was produced by guitarists Greg Thomas and Ryan Morgan, a first for the band. The album cover was illustrated by Adam Rosenlund. This is the band's last album with vocalist Karl Schubach. Background The band's previous album, '' Controller'' was released in 2008. The band would tour in support of the album for nearly a year before going on hiatus to focus on other projects. ''AbsolutePunk'' was a website, online community, and alternative music news source founded by Jason Tate (the most recent CEO). The website mainly focused on artists who are relatively unknown to mainstream audiences, but it was known to feature artists who have eventually achieved crossover success, for example, Blink-182 and Fall Out Boy. Metalcore is a broadly defined fusion genre combining elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk, originating in the 1990s United States and becoming popular in the 2000s.
