Consulate General Of Sweden, Houston
The Consulate General of Sweden, Houston was the diplomatic mission of Sweden in Houston between 1963 and 1981. The consulate general originated from the consulate opened in 1950, which was converted into a consulate general in 1963. Its tasks were to advance the interests of Sweden, and to serve and protect Swedes in Houston and different states in the Southern United States. Along with those in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York City, San Francisco, and Montreal, the consulate general belonged to the so-called "heritage consulates" due to the large number of inheritance cases it handled. The consulate general's district comprised not only the city of Houston but also the states of Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and the Florida panhandle. Yngve Holmberg (21 March 1925 – 29 October 2011) was a Swedish politician in the Moderate Party, who was its leader from 1965 to 1970. Early life Holmberg was born on 21 March 1925 in Bromma Parish, City of Stockholm, Sweden, the son of , an editor, and his wife Ingeborg (née Johansson). He passed ''studentexamen'' in 1945 and received a Candidate of Law degree from Stockholm University College in 1951. Karl Henrik Andersson (3 September 1918 – 23 January 1998) was a Swedish diplomat. Andersson had a long diplomatic career spanning four decades. He began as an attaché at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1943 and served in key postings in Washington, D.C., London, and Stockholm, where he was promoted to first secretary in 1953. He held positions as consul in Casablanca and Houston, where he became consul general in 1963. As ambassador, Andersson represented Sweden in Abidjan (1963–1967), Wellington (1967–1969), Jakarta and Manila (1969–1973), and Kinshasa (1979–1982), with accreditations to several African nations. He also served as consul general in Chicago (1973–1976) and contributed to trade negotiations as an expert delegate. Gunnar Daniel Dryselius (2 May 1907 – 16 September 1982) was a Swedish diplomat. Dryselius began his diplomatic career in 1933 and held early postings in London, Prague, and Buenos Aires, where he played a crucial role in securing vital Swedish overseas trade during World War II, supplies for Sweden during World War II. In 1944, he returned to Stockholm to lead the Latin American Bureau, planning the postwar resumption of trade with South and Central America.
