As of August 2016, South Africa was ranked number Five, Malawi was ranked number Six, Uganda was ranked Seven, Zambia was ranked Sixteenth, Botswana was ranked twentieth, Zimbabwe was ranked Twenty-first and Swaziland was ranked Thirtieth in the world. South Africa Netball is one of the most popular women's participation sports in South Africa. 	Botswana National Netball Team The Botswana national netball team represent Botswana in international netball tests. Botswana competed in the 2007 World Netball Championships, their first appearance at a World Championships, finishing tenth. They also came second at the 2008 Nations Cup, and finished 13th at the 2011 World Championships in Singapore. As of 2 December 2019, Botswana are 24th in the INF World Rankings. 	Malawi National Netball Team The Malawi national netball team, nicknamed "The Queens", represent Malawi in international netball competitions. History Malawi have played in six World Netball Championships, famously finishing fifth in 2007. The Queens are coached by Peace Chawinga Kalua who replaced Whyte Mlilima, who was appointed as caretaker head coach after former coach late Griffin Saenda had to withdraw from the team on medical grounds. As of November 2022, the team are sixth on the World Netball Rankings. In 2012 they competed in the Fast5 tournament in Auckland, where they have had several historic results including wins over Australia and England, and finished in 5th place, just narrowly missing out on the finals. 	Namibia National Netball Team The Namibia national netball team is the national netball team of Namibia. As of 2 December 2019, Namibia were 30th in the INF World Rankings. Namibia competed in the annual Confederation of Southern African Netball Associations (COSANA) tournament in 2008. The 2010 Nations Cup, called NTUC FairPrice Foundation Nations Cup 2010, was held in December. Namibia beat India 72–32 to capture fifth. The current team members are below. 	South Africa National Netball Team The South Africa national netball team, nicknamed the SPAR Proteas, represents South Africa in women's international netball. The SPAR Proteas are coached by Dorette Badenhorst, and are captained by Bongiwe Msomi. The team are governed by Netball South Africa and sponsored by SPAR. South Africa are currently fifth in the INF World Rankings. History South Africa have long been among the top five ranked nations in netball, having twice won medals at the World Cup, once with a third-place finish in 1967 and later securing runner-up status to Australia in 1995. The national team was barred from participating in international test matches in 1969 because of the country's apartheid policies and were not readmitted until 1995. In line with other women's representative sports teams in Uganda, the netball team are known as the "She-Cranes". Uganda are currently ranked seventh in the INF World Rankings. History World Cups Uganda qualified through to the 2015 World Cup after qualifying via the African system where they defeated Zimbabwe, Zambia, Swaziland and Botswana along the way to finish on top of Africa and making it through to their first World Cup since the 5th edition which was held in Trinidad and Tobago. A common misunderstanding of the sport's origins has resulted in the mistaken belief that netball was created to prevent women from playing basketball.
