Concordia (mythology)
In ancient Roman religion, Concordia (means "concord" or "harmony" in Latin) is the goddess who embodies agreement in marriage and society. Her Greek equivalent is usually regarded as Harmonia, with musical harmony a metaphor for an ideal of social concord or '' entente'' in the political discourse of the Republican era. She was thus often associated with Pax ("Peace") in representing a stable society. As such, she is more closely related to the Greek concept of '' homonoia'' ( likemindedness), which was also represented by a goddess. Concordia Augusta was cultivated in the context of Imperial cult. Dedicatory inscriptions to her, on behalf of emperors and members of the imperial family, were common. Concordia Scott
Sister Concordia Scott (1924 – 2014) was a Scottish sculptor and Benedictine nun, of the Minster Abbey community, Minster-in-Thanet, Kent. Her commissioned works have included statues for Westminster Abbey, Canterbury Cathedral, Coventry Cathedral and the National Shrine of Wales as well as numerous sculptures currently in Europe and the United States of America. Early life and education Caroline Scott was born in Glasgow on 15 March 1924. She gained a scholarship to the Edinburgh College of Art aged 17, but her studies were interrupted by the war. She joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service and served in the 93rd Searchlight Regiment, the only one in the world entirely staffed by women, and was based in Wimbledon, London. At the end of the war, she completed her studies in Edinburgh, gaining her Diploma in 1950, and became a commercial artist. Concordia (electoral District)
Concordia is a provincial electoral division in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba. It is in the northeastern part of the city of Winnipeg. It is bordered to the south by St. Boniface (provincial electoral district), St. Boniface, to the west by Elmwood (electoral district), Elmwood, to the north by Rossmere, and to the east by Radisson (electoral district), Radisson. The riding was created by redistribution in 1979, and formally came into existence with the 1981 Manitoba general election, provincial election of 1981. Concordia is an ethnically diverse riding, with 16% of its human population born outside Canada. Concordia is a smock mill in Ede, the Netherlands, which is maintained in working order. The mill is listed as Rijksmonument number 14469. History The mill was built in 1868 to replace an earlier mill that burnt down in 1865, which was believed to date back to the 17th century. The new mill would partly originate from Zaan, where it was used as a sawmill. In Ede, however, the mill was used mainly for milling grain and to extract oil from beechnuts. Concordia is a locality at the western end of the Barossa Valley, South Australia, situated 5 km ENE of Gawler. Concordia (; ) is the confluence of the Baltoro Glacier and the Godwin-Austen Glacier in the Karakoram mountain range of Pakistan.
