Conan (band)
Conan are a British doom/sludge metal band from Liverpool whose style is characterised by a heavily distorted and downtuned sound. It has been described as "caveman battle doom". History Conan was founded as a two piece by guitarist/singer Jon Davis in 2006, with Richie Grundy on drums. Following the departure of Grundy, Paul O'Neil took over on drums before the band went on nearly a year-long hiatus. Once activity resumed, the band added the position of bass guitarist and went through several musicians before Chris Fielding joined in 2013. Longtime drummer O'Neil, who had performed on both of the band's full-length albums, was replaced by Rich Lewis in 2014. On 31 March 2015, the band announced that they would be headlining a US tour with support Samothrace and Mantar. The tour consisted of 11 dates, including Psycho California and Maryland Deathfest. Summer Breeze Open Air is an annual German heavy metal music festival. It was first held in 1997. The festival had been held in Abtsgmünd until 2006 when it was moved to its new location of Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria. The festival draws around 40,000 attendees annually. Maryland Deathfest
Maryland Deathfest (often abbreviated to MDF) is an annual American extreme metal music festival founded in 2003 by Ryan Taylor and Evan Harting. The festival is held in Baltimore, Maryland during Memorial Day weekend, and it features many bands from around the world that vary from a wide range of heavy metal subgenres. It is the biggest event of its kind in North America, attracting attendees from more than 40 U.S. states and 25 countries every year. More than 800 bands from more than 40 countries have played at MDF since 2003. The concept of the event is "To bring to the world the best and most extreme bands the underground has to offer. Never conforming to trends, or being limited by genre restrictions, we want to showcase what extreme music, both new and old, is capable of." Roadburn Festival
The Roadburn Festival is an annual music festival held each April in Tilburg, Netherlands. It was founded by Walter Hoeijmakers and Jurgen van den Brand in 1999, who ran a stoner rock blog of the same name. The festival has been held at Tilburg's 013 concert hall since 2005. In the earliest years before that, multiple events were organised in a year throughout various cities in the Netherlands, such as Nijmegen and Eindhoven. It evolved into a multi-day event beginning in 2006, and shortly after, tickets began to sell out for the festival in under an hour as its audience grew internationally. The festival estimates that around 75% of its attendees come from outside the Netherlands. The festival has grown since its stoner rock origins and is now focused on various forms of experimental and extreme music: its motto in recent years has been "redefining heaviness." Holy Roar Records was an independent record label run by Alex Fitzpatrick. The label began in January 2006 and put out its first release, the Phoenix Bodies album, Raise the Bullshit Flag in June 2006. Fitzpatrick originally joked that the name was derived from a vision he had while using the hallucinogen LSD. According to Fitzpatrick, the name “Holy Roar” was derived from a Torche song with the same title. Fudge Tunnel were an English band formed in Nottingham by Alex Newport, David Ryley and Adrian Parkin. They were known for straddling noise rock and sludge metal, with their sound being compared to bands such as Melvins and Nirvana. History Fudge Tunnel formed in 1989. After two singles on Pigboy/Vinyl Solution Records ("Fudge Tunnel" in 1989, "The Sweet Sound of Excess" in 1990), they signed to Nottingham's Earache Records.
