Mauguio (; , primarily ''Melguelh'') is a Communes of France, commune in the Hérault Departments of France, department in southern France. History The city of Mauguio, seventh city of the Herault department and chief town of the district, is located 11 km east of Montpellier. The altitude of the village is between 4 and 6 meters above sea level, the mont is a raised net peaking at more than 20 meters. This anomaly cannot receive any explanation from a geological point of view, because it is indeed a totally artificial relief created by the lords of the region, the Lords of Melgueil, to establish their castle. The city of Mauguio has a rich history, since in the Middle Ages, it was the first Melgueil medieval city of Lower Languedoc, where the origin of the name of its inhabitants: the Melgoriens. Palavas-les-Flots (; Languedocien: ''Palavàs'') is a commune in the Hérault department in the Occitanie region in southern France. Geography Palavas is a fishing village and seaside resort 9 km south of Montpellier at the Gulf of Lion and the Mediterranean. It lies on sand dunes that separate two lakes, the ''Étang de l'Arnel'' and the ''Étang du Méjean'', from the sea. Its neighbouring communities are Lattes, Pérols, Mauguio and Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone. Its center is where the River Lez flows through a canalized section into the sea. Northwards it stretches to Mauguio; southwards expansion is halted by a military area and an area used by the Ifremer. La Grande-Motte (; ) is a commune in the Hérault département in Occitanie in southern France. It is a popular seaside resort and port near Montpellier, built in the 1960s and 1970s. La Grande-Motte is characterized by homogeneous architecture; many of the prominent buildings are pyramidal in form.
