Pontcarré () is a commune in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. Geography Geology The commune is classified in a zone of Seismicity 1, corresponding to a very weak seismicity. Hydrography The Morbras River, a Tributary of the Marne, has its source in the town. Demographics The inhabitants are called ''Pontcarréens'' in French. In 2020, the total number of dwellings in the municipality was 962, of which 68% were houses and 32% were apartments. History On 23 December 1933, Lagny-Pomponne Railroad Disaster, the second worst train accident in France occurred in Pomponne with a rear-end collision of Paris-Nancy express and Paris-Strasbourg fast train. 230 people were killed and 300 injured aboard the Nancy express as its 7 wood coaches were smashed. The driver of the Strasbourg train had signal passed at danger, passed a signal at danger in darkness and fog, but the Crocodile (train protection system), "Crocodile" acoustic warning system was found to have failed because the contacts had iced over. Lagny-sur-Marne (, literally ''Lagny on Marne'') is a commune in the eastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located in the Seine-et-Marne department in Île-de-France from the centre of Paris (20 minutes away from the centre of Paris). The commune of Lagny-sur-Marne is part of the Val de Bussy sector, one of the four sectors in the "new town" of Marne-la-Vallée. History From 644, Lagny-sur-Marne was the site of Lagny Abbey, a monastery founded that year, and after its destruction by the Normans refounded about 990. The monastery was seized by the state at the French Revolution and its buildings are used since 1842 as the offices of the municipality. During the Middle Ages Lagny-sur-Marne was one of the most popular places for tourneys in Northern France. In November 1179 a notable tournament was held by Louis VII of France in honour of the coronation of his son.
