Coláiste Na Sceilge
Coláiste na Sceilge is a secondary school in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Ireland. It is a co-educational community school which grew out of the amalgamation in 1999 of St John Bosco Secondary School, Scoil Uí Chonaill and Waterville Vocational School. In 2018, the former Kerry footballer Maurice Fitzgerald was appointed as its principal. As of 2019, it had an enrollment of 511 secondary school students. The school offers courses under the Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate (including Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme) curriculum. The school has won a number of provincial and national titles in Gaelic football. Cahersiveen
Cahersiveen (), sometimes Cahirciveen, is a town in the south-west of Republic of Ireland, Ireland, in County Kerry. As of the 2022 census of Ireland, 2022 census, it had a population of 1,297. Geography Cahersiveen is on the slopes of 376-metre-high Bentee, and on the lower course of the River Ferta. It is the principal settlement of the Iveragh Peninsula, near Valentia Island. The town is 50 km west of Killarney. History Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a number of ring fort, holy well, ring barrow, and castle sites in the townlands of Cahersiveen, Garranebane and Carhan. These include the stone forts of Cahergall and Leacanabuaile, which stand close to each other a short distance from the town. Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme
The Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) is a two-year optional Education Programme of the Irish Department of Education. LCVP was introduced in 1989. According to the Department of Education, the programme is ''designed to give a strong vocational dimension to the Leaving Certificate (established). The programme combines the virtues of academic study with a new and dynamic focus on self-directed learning, enterprise, work and the community''. The programme is aimed at young people who have completed the Junior Certificate and are entering the senior cycle of Secondary School education, but provides a stronger vocational focus than the more established Leaving Certificate. Donie O'Sullivan (journalist)
Donie O'Sullivan (born 24 March 1991) is a senior correspondent working for CNN in New York City. Born in Ireland, he holds both Irish and US citizenship. Corn Uí Mhuirí
Corn Uí Mhuirí is the cup presented to the winners of the Munster colleges senior "A" football championship, the top level Gaelic football championship for secondary schools in Munster. The winners advance to the Hogan Cup, which is the All-Ireland colleges senior "A" football championship. The competition begins with a round-robin system of four groups of three teams. The top two teams in each group advance to the knock-out stage. The competition was established in 1927 by Dr. Eamon O'Sullivan and Canon Breen at a meeting in Mallow. The holders are Mercy Secondary School, Mounthawk, who defeated Tralee CBS in the 2024 Final, played at Austin Stacks Park on 10 February 2024. Hogan Cup
The Hogan Cup (), also known as the All-Ireland Post Primary Schools Senior A Football Championship, is the top level Gaelic football championship for secondary schools (sometimes referred to as colleges) in Ireland. The competition itself is regularly referred to by the trophy's name. The current champions are St Patrick's College, Maghera, who won the cup for the sixth time by defeating St Colman's College in the final. St Jarlath's College, Tuam hold the record number of titles, winning their twelfth in 2002, and have appeared as runners-up in a further fourteen finals. The competition commenced in 1946 but was not played in the years 1949 to 1956. The cup is named after Brother Thomas Hogan. The Hogan Stand in Croke Park is named after his brother Michael Hogan. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The Leaving Certificate Applied ( Irish: ''Ardteistiméireacht Fheidhmeach'') is a self-contained two-year programme of the Irish Department of Education. It was first introduced in 1995 as an alternative or variant of the established Leaving Certificate programme. According to the Department of Education, the programme is "intended to meet the needs of those pupils who either choose not to opt for other Leaving Certificate Programmes". The programme is aimed at young people who have completed the Junior Certificate and students who have taken a FÁS course. Junior Cycle
The Junior Cycle () is the first stage of the education programme for post-primary education within the Republic of Ireland. It is overseen by the Department of Education (Ireland), Department of Education and the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), and its terminal examination, the Junior Certificate, by the State Examinations Commission. New specifications and curriculum reforms saw the Junior Cycle replaced the original Junior Certificate programme (as first introduced in 1992).
