Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V., commonly known as Club América, is a professional association football, football club based in Mexico City. Nicknamed ''Las Águilas'' (The Eagles), it competes in Liga MX, the top tier of Mexican football league system, Mexican football. The club was founded in 1916, and since 1959 has been owned by mass media company Televisa. The team plays its home games at Estadio Azteca, Estadio Banorte, the largest stadium in Latin America and List of association football stadiums by capacity, one of the largest in the world. América is one of the Liga MX#Founding members, founding members of the Primera División. The club has a long-standing rivalry with C.D. Estadio Ciudad De Los Deportes
Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes (English: Sports City Stadium) is a 34,253-seat multi-purpose stadium located in Ciudad de los Deportes, Mexico City. The facility is used for association football matches and for American football as well. The Tazón México has been played at the stadium. It is the current home stadium of football club Club América. In summer 2016, Mexico City authorities announced plans to demolish the stadium would begin at the end of the 2017-2018 Liga MX season. However, in July 2018, the demolition project was put on hold. In the 2023–24 Liga MX season, Cruz Azul returned to the stadium. Both times Mexico hosted the FIFA World Cup, World Cup, Estadio Azul did not host matches mainly due to the age of the structure, bad parking facilities, and complex traffic patterns. Copa México
Copa MX, also known as Copa Corona MX for sponsorship reasons, was an association football competition in Mexico and the domestic cup tournament for clubs at the highest and second levels of Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Copa México (1942–1963, 1970–1997) and also as Copa Presidente (1963–1970), the first season of the professional era was held in 1942–43 Copa México, 1942–43. The cup tournament was not held in several years (1976–1988, 1992–1994, 1997–2012) and currently the competition has been paused since the 2019–20 Copa MX, 2019–20 edition. Campeonato de Primera Fuerza (), later known as Liga Mayor (), was an amateur association football league in Mexico. It was founded and organized by the Federación Mexicana de Football Asociación (), which was the first governing body of Mexican football, after the merger of the ''Liga Mexicana'' and ''Liga Nacional''. Asturias FC won the inaugural season and CD Marte were the last champions. It had the total participation of 18 teams, of which only two teams played their matches outside of Mexico City. Rafael Garza Gutiérrez
Rafael Garza Gutiérrez (13 December 1896 – 3 July 1974), nicknamed "Récord", was a Mexican Association football, football player and coach. He, along with other members of the Garza family, are recognized as the founders of Club América. He was a defender (association football), defender for that club as well as the Mexico national football team, Selección de fútbol de México (Mexico national team). Upon retiring, he took the reins of his beloved club as an executive and later served as the national team manager. He is an Olympian. Club América Garza Gutiérrez, and a group of young men, championed the idea of a Club América when on 12 October 1916 (Columbus Day; Spanish, "Día del descubrimiento de America"/"Day of the discovery of America"), met. IFFHS
The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) is an organisation that chronicles the history and records of association football. It was founded in 1984 by Alfredo Pöge in Leipzig. The IFFHS was based in Abu Dhabi for some time but, in 2010, relocated to Bonn, Germany, and then in 2014 to Zürich. From its early stages to 2002, the IFFHS concentrated on publishing the quarterly magazines ''Fußball-Weltzeitschrift'', ''Libero spezial deutsch'' and ''Libero international''. In sports (especially in North America), a three-peat is winning three consecutive championships or tournaments. The term, a portmanteau of the words ''three'' and ''repeat'', originated with the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association, during their unsuccessful campaign for a third consecutive championship during the 1988–89 season, having won the previous two NBA finals. Origin and trademark The term is a registered trademark owned by Pat Riley, the Lakers' head coach from 1981 to 1990. The Copa Interamericana () was an international association football, football competition endorsed by CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean) and CONMEBOL (South America). Established in 1969, it was discontinued in 1998 after CONCACAF clubs, particularly those from Mexico, began participating in CONMEBOL competitions. The competition was intended to be contested between the winners of the North American CONCACAF Champions Cup and the South American Copa Libertadores tournaments, although the participants varied at times. The competition was usually contested over a two legged tie, with a playoff or penalty kicks if necessary, but it was common for several consecutive editions to go unheld. CONCACAF Giants Cup
The CONCACAF Giants Cup was an international association football, football club competition held in 2001 to replace the CONCACAF Cup Winners Cup. The tournament was organized by CONCACAF for the 12 teams with the highest attendance in their respective national leagues. The winners and runners-up would qualify for the new CONCACAF Clubs Cup, which would serve as a qualification tournament for the FIFA Club World Championship. The Giants Cup was announced in November 2000 and planned to be one of the two primary annual club tournaments for CONCACAF alongside the more traditional CONCACAF Champions' Cup, Champions' Cup. The tournament's semifinals and final were originally scheduled to take place in late April in Los Angeles, but were later postponed to early August to accommodate conflicts with the teams' schedules.
