Clinton is a town in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 15,428 at the 2020 census. History Clinton was first settled by Europeans in 1654 as a part of Lancaster. It was officially incorporated as a separate town on March 14, 1850, and named after the DeWitt Clinton Hotel in New York, a favorite place of the town's founders, Erastus Brigham Bigelow and his brother Horatio. Clinton became an industrialized mill town, using the Nashua River as a source for water power. In 1897, construction began on the Wachusett Dam, culminating in the filling of the Wachusett Reservoir in 1908. Clinton is a census-designated place (CDP) and the primary village in the town of Clinton in Kennebec County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,419 at the 2010 census, out of 3,486 in the entire town of Clinton. Geography Clinton is located in northeastern Kennebec County at (44.640286, −69.497964). It is in the southeastern part of the town of Clinton. The village sits on the north side of the Sebasticook River, a tributary of the Kennebec River. The Clinton CDP includes rural land surrounding the village; it is bordered to the south by the town of Benton, to the east by the Sebasticook River, to the northeast by the Waldo County line with the town of Burnham, and to the north and west by Interstate 95. Clinton is a town in, and the parish seat of, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, United States. The town was named for New York Governor DeWitt Clinton. The population was 1,653 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1824, when Feliciana Parish was split into East and West, Clinton became the seat of East Feliciana Parish's government, replacing the town of Jackson in this capacity. Several military engagements occurred during the American Civil War which involved Clinton. Union General Benjamin Grierson occupied Clinton on June 7, 1863, one month before the fall of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Clinton is an unincorporated community on a peninsula next to Clinton Lake in Douglas County, Kansas, United States. History Bloomington The community of Bloomington was settled in June 1854 but was not called as such until April 1855 when Harrison Burson applied to the U.S. Government for a post office. Within eight months of the area being settled some 530 settlers were in the area that would become Bloomington-Clinton. The people of Bloomington were greatly anti-slavery and helped slaves escape through the Underground Railroad. In early 1857, the north half of Bloomington was moved to a new location and the south portion of the community was renamed Winchester. Winchester Winchester was named after a city in Illinois as was Bloomington. Later in the year Bloomington acted to become an incorporated city with Winchester following suit four days later. Clinton, along with DeWitt (also located in Clinton County), was named in honor of the sixth governor of New York, DeWitt Clinton.
