''Claretta and Ben'' () is a 1974 Italian comedy film directed by Gian Luigi Polidoro. Plot Gino Pistone, manager of a provincial company, makes ends meet as best he can. The company is dissolved by the lead actress and he, to reunite it, has a stroke of genius: to stage the story of Benito Mussolini and his latest lover, Claretta Petacci. The idea works, and Pistone identifies himself too much in the role of Mussolini. Gian Luigi Polidoro (4 February 1927 – 7 September 2000) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. He directed 16 films between 1956 and 1998. His 1963 film ''To Bed or Not to Bed, Il diavolo'' won the Golden Bear at the 13th Berlin International Film Festival. Gigi Ballista (1 December 1918 – 2 August 1980) was an Italian film and television actor. He appeared in 60 films between 1961 and 1980. Life and career Born in Florence, Ballista graduated in law, then he started working as a PR consultant in the field of advertising and industrial documentaries. He debuted as an actor at a mature age in the early 1960s with some minor roles, but his breakout came in 1966 with a role of weight in Pietro Germi's '' The Birds, the Bees and the Italians''.
