Clément Tyres, ''Clément Pneumatics'', ''Clément Pneumatici'', is a Franco-Italian tyre manufacturer that was founded by French industrialist and bicycle manufacturer Adolphe Clément-Bayard, possibly around the 1900s. The brand ceased active trading in the 1990s but was revived under American identity in 2010. History Adolphe Clément began manufacture of tyres in 1878 for his early cycles, but the French identity was lost when, in 1889, he became the French licensee for manufacture of Dunlop pneumatic tyres with their subsequent overwhelming success. ''Clément Pneumatici'' was probably established in Italy in the 1900s, but after World War I it grew to prominence in Italy, as a leading supplier of bicycle tyres, which it sustained throughout most of the 20th century. Adolphe Clément-Bayard
Gustave Adolphe Clément, known from 1909 Clément-Bayard (; 22 September 1855 – 10 March 1928), was a French entrepreneur. Despite being orphaned, he became a blacksmith and a ''Compagnons du Tour de France, Compagnon du Tour de France.'' He later ventured into racing and manufacturing bicycles, pneumatic tyres, motorcycles, automobiles, aeroplanes and airships. In 1894, he was a passenger in the winning vehicle in the world's first competitive motor event. Albert Lemaître's Peugeot was judged to be the winner of the Paris–Rouen (motor race), Paris–Rouen 'Competition for Horeseless Carriages' (''Concours des Voitures sans Chevaux''). Édouard Louis Joseph, Baron Merckx (born 17 June 1945), known as Eddy Merckx (, ), is a Belgian former professional road and track cyclist racer who is the most successful rider in the history of competitive cycling. Jacques Anquetil
Jacques Anquetil (; 8 January 1934 – 18 November 1987) was a French road racing cyclist and the first cyclist to win the Tour de France five times, in 1957 and from 1961 to 1964. He stated before the 1961 Tour that he would gain the yellow jersey on day one and wear it all through the tour, a tall order with two previous winners in the field—Charly Gaul and Federico Bahamontes—but he did it. His victories in stage races such as the Tour were built on an exceptional ability to ride alone against the clock in individual time trial stages, which lent him the name "Monsieur Chrono". He won eight Grand Tours in his career, which was a record when he retired and was surpassed only by Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault. Felice Gimondi
Felice Gimondi (; 29 September 1942 – 16 August 2019) was an Italian professional racing cyclist. With his 1968 Vuelta a España, 1968 victory at the Vuelta a España, only three years after becoming a professional cyclist, Gimondi, nicknamed "The Phoenix", was the second cyclist (after Jacques Anquetil) to win all three ''Grand Tour (cycling), Grand Tours'' of road cycling: Tour de France (1965, his first year as a pro), Giro d'Italia (1967, 1969 and 1976), and Vuelta a España (1968). He is one of only Grand Tour (cycling)#Winners of all three Grand Tours, seven cyclists to have done so. Ole Ritter
Ole Ritter (born 29 August 1941) is a former Danish racing cyclist, mainly known for breaking the hour record in 1968. Amateur years As an amateur he rode for ABC Denmark. His breakthrough came in 1962 where he won 2 silver medals at the world championship in Italy, Individual & 100 km team time trial. Ritter took part in the 1964 Summer Olympics. He rode the individual road race and finished in 74th place, and was part of the Danish team in the team time trial that finished seventh. He became Danish champion twice (1962 and 1966), and Scandinavian champion once (1966) and in 1965 went to Italy to break the world record on the 100 km. Professional years In 1967 he became professional in Italy with the Germanvox-Wega team and his career took off.
