City Of Onkaparinga
The City of Onkaparinga () is a local government area (LGA) located on the southern fringe of Adelaide, South Australia. It is named after the Onkaparinga River, whose name comes from ''Ngangkiparinga'', a Kaurna word meaning women's river. It is the largest LGA in South Australia, with a population of over 170,000 people in both urban and rural communities and is also geographically expansive, encompassing an area of 518.3 km2. The council is headquartered in the Noarlunga Centre with area offices situated in Aberfoyle Park, Woodcroft and Willunga. History The council was formed on 1 July 1997 as the City of Happy Valley, Noarlunga and Willunga from the amalgamation of the former City of Happy Valley and City of Noarlunga with part of the District Council of Willunga. Noarlunga Centre, South Australia
Noarlunga Centre is a suburb in the City of Onkaparinga in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. The suburb is mostly commercial, being dominated by the Centro Colonnades shopping centre and the small 'Inspire Noarlunga' estate to the east of Goldsmith Road. The suburb is bordered by Beach Road to the north, Dyson Road to the west, Goldsmith Road to the south and the Southern Expressway to the east. Burgess Drive, Seaman Road and David Witton Drive are the main thoroughfares inside the boundaries of the suburb. The name Noarlunga is an English adaptation of the native Kaurna word Nurlongga, meaning 'at the curvature', referring to the horseshoe bend near the mouth of the Onkaparinga River. The District Council of Yankalilla is a local government area centred on the town of Yankalilla on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. It was created on 23 October 1856, when the District Council of Yankalilla and Myponga was divided into two. It later absorbed two other councils: the District Council of Myponga on 5 January 1888, one of a number of amalgamations mandated under the ''District Councils Act 1887'', and later the District Council of Rapid Bay on 12 May 1932. Lorraine Rosenberg
Lorraine Florence Rosenberg (born 14 August 1951) is an Australian politician. She was a Liberal Party of Australia member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1993 to 1997, and was then Mayor of the City of Onkaparinga from 2006 to 2018. Biography Rosenberg attained a Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Honours in Biochemistry, Masters in Soil Conservation and other qualifications in Environmental Management Systems, and had a 15-year research career in biochemistry. She also manages a 32-hectare farm at Willunga Hill, and worked variously as General Manager of The SA Fishing Industry Council, and General Manager of The Alyntjara Wilurara Natural Resources Management Board. The District Council of Willunga, was a local government area in South Australia seated at Willunga from 1853 until 1997. History The District Council of Willunga was established on 18 August 1853 to govern the Hundred of Willunga and the southernmost portion of the Hundred of Kuitpo, one of the sets of earliest local government bodies to be created in the state. The district was bounded on the north-west by the Onkaparinga River up to the present-day boundary between Blewitt Springs and Clarendon. It was bounded on the north-east by straight lines passing to the Wickam Hill and North Mount Magnificent trig stations. The City of Noarlunga, formerly the District Council of Noarlunga, was a local government area in South Australia from 1856 until 1997. History The District Council of Noarlunga was established on 21 August 1856 following lobbying by residents at Noarlunga on either side of the Onkaparinga River. The council area was formed from part of the District Council of Willunga on the south bank and part of the District Council of Morphett Vale on the north bank. The remainder of Morphett Vale council was annexed by Noarlunga 75 years later on 12 May 1932 along with part of the District Council of Clarendon. Willunga is a town located to the south of Adelaide, South Australia in the City of Onkaparinga (a Local government in Australia, local government area). It is 47 km by road from the Adelaide city centre and 12 km from the coast at Aldinga Bay. Willunga is within the McLaren Vale wine-growing region. Woodcroft is a metropolitan suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, located 20 km south of the Central Business District of Adelaide. It is bordered to the north by Reynell Road, to the south by Bains Road, to the west by Panalatinga Road and by the Hills Face Zone to the east. The Panalatinga Creek also runs through the suburb. Aberfoyle Park is a suburb in the City of Onkaparinga in the state of South Australia. It is located in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, approximately 20 km from the city centre. Kaurna Language
Kaurna ( or ) is a Pama-Nyungan language historically spoken by the Kaurna peoples of the Adelaide Plains of South Australia. The Kaurna peoples are made up of various tribal clan groups, each with their own ''parnkarra'' district of land and local dialect. These dialects were historically spoken in the area bounded by Crystal Brook and Clare in the north, Cape Jervis in the south, and just over the Mount Lofty Ranges. Kaurna ceased to be spoken on an everyday basis in the 19th century and the last known native speaker, Ivaritji, died in 1929.
