In support of its release, Lush toured with Pale Saints and Loop, performing a dozen dates on the UK university circuit. ''Scar'' was also a moderate commercial success for 4AD, selling over 15,000 copies in its first four months of release and peaking at number three on the UK Independent Albums C ... In contrast to ''Scar'', ''Mad Love'' features more polished production techniques and expansive music styles, including elements of jangle pop, post-punk and shoegazing. It was well received in the United Kingdom and the United States, with ''Mad Love'' being the band's first release to place in the mainstream UK Singles Chart and its opening track "De-Luxe" in the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart. A minor success, it topped the UK Independent Singles Chart upon release. Background and recording Lush released their debut mini-album ''Scar'' in October 1989 to warm reviews. Young Marble Giants
Young Marble Giants were a Welsh post-punk band formed in Cardiff, Wales, in 1978. Their music was based around the vocals of Alison Statton along with the minimalist instrumentation of brothers Philip and Stuart Moxham. Their early sound was a sharp contrast with the more aggressive punk rock that dominated the underground at the time. Young Marble Giants released just one studio album, '' Colossal Youth'', in 1980. They also released two EPs and recorded a John Peel session. History Young Marble Giants formed from the ashes of the band True Wheel which also included friends Matthew Davis and Louise Porter who later signed to EMI. Stuart Moxham wrote the majority of the band's songs. Their sound was characterised by Phil's prominent bass lines, Stuart's rhythm guitar (a Rickenbacker 425) and Galanti electric organ lines and Statton's vocals. Stuart Moxham's girlfriend, Wendy Smith, lent him the money to buy the Rickenbacker. Smith, an art student in Cardiff at the time Young ... Ciao! (song)
"Ciao!" is a song by English alternative rock band Lush from their 1996 album, '' Lovelife''. Written as a duet sung from the perspective of a breakup, the song was written by Miki Berenyi with Jarvis Cocker of Pulp making a guest appearance to sing the male vocals. "Ciao!" was never released as a single, but saw positive critical reception and has been performed live, with one performance featuring Ian Astbury of the Cult as the male vocalist. Background "Ciao!" notably features Jarvis Cocker of Pulp dueting with Lush vocalist Miki Berenyi. According to Berenyi, she first met Cocker and Pulp in 1991, when the then-obscure Pulp performed as Lush's support act. Berenyi recalled, " ulpabsolutely blew me away and I became a regular at their gigs over the next several years." Berenyi had written the song as a duet after Lush drummer Chris Acland jokingly asked to sing a song on the new album. Ultimately, Acland declined and Cocker provided guest vocals, possibly because, accordin ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Ladykillers (song)
"Ladykillers" is a song by English rock band Lush. It was released through 4AD on 26 February 1996 as the second single from the band's third studio album, '' Lovelife'' (1996). Known for its feminist themes, the song became one of the band's bigger hits, peaking at No. 22 on the UK Singles Chart, No. 18 on the US ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart, and No. 15 on the Canadian ''RPM'' Alternative 30 chart. The song appeared in the video game NCAA Football 06. Background "Ladykillers" was described as a Britpop track and "a punky shot of Blondie-esque new wave". Lacking the reverb-indebted sound of the band's previous material, the track opened with "attention-seizing circular melody and spunky vocals" from lead vocalist Miki Berenyi. AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine said that it was influenced by "the direct, jagged pop of Elastica", but the band were annoyed by what Berenyi called "stupid Elastica comparisons". Berenyi confirmed that the second and third verses of th ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
