Christos Arvanitis
Christos Arvanitis (; born 23 January 1957) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Club career Arvanitis started his football career playing for the youth departments of Ethnikos Piraeus. He was then promoted to the first team of Ethnikos where he had a very good presence from 1971 to 1978, when it was time to transfer to Olympiacos. In the "red and whites" after spending a year on the bench, he replaced Kelesidis in the starting eleven and with his performances greatly helped Olympiacos to win the championship in 1980. Later, however, he was displaced from the eleven by the then rising star of Greek football, Nikos Sarganis, as a result of which he looked for a new football club in his career. In his 4-year spell he won 3 convective championships, from 1980 to 1982 and a cup including a domestic double in 1981. Edessa
Edessa (; ) was an ancient city (''polis'') in Upper Mesopotamia, in what is now Urfa or Şanlıurfa, Turkey. It was founded during the Hellenistic period by Macedonian general and self proclaimed king Seleucus I Nicator (), founder of the Seleucid Empire. He named it after an ancient Macedonian capital. The Greek name (''Édessa'') means "tower in the water". It later became capital of the Kingdom of Osroene, and continued as capital of the Roman province of Osroene. 1979–80 Alpha Ethniki
The 1979–80 Alpha Ethniki was the 44th season of the highest football league of Greece. From that season Alpha Ethniki became the professional league. The season began on 30 September 1979 and ended on 25 May 1980 with the play-off matches. Olympiacos won their 21st Greek title and their first one in five years. 1982–83 Greek Football Cup
The 1982–83 Greek Football Cup was the 41st edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 74 teams participated, each with their own favorite brand names, 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 40 from Beta, and 16 from Gamma. It was held in 7 rounds, included final. An additional round was held between First and Second, with 5 matches, in order that the teams would continue to be 32. For first time participated teams from Gamma Ethniki, while that year the particular division was established. The final was contested by AEK Athens and PAOK. The two teams not only met themselves for a fourth consecutive year in the competition (PAOK had qualified the three previous times), but also 5 years after the 1978 final. 1980 Greek Super Cup
The 1980 Greek Super Cup was the 1st edition of the Greek Super Cup, an association football match contested by the winners of the previous season's Alpha Ethniki and Greek Cup competitions. The match took place on 29 May 1980 at Karaiskakis Stadium. The contesting teams were the 1979–80 Alpha Ethniki champions, Olympiacos and the 1979–80 Greek Cup winners, Kastoria. The institution was organized by PSAT as an unofficial match, but it was later officially recognized. The match was held just four days after the cup final and five days after the championship play-off between Olympiacos and Aris. Venue This was the first Greek Super Cup held at the Karaiskakis Stadium. Karaiskakis Stadium was built in 1895 and renovated once in 1964. The Greek Super Cup (), formerly known as the Friendship and Solidarity Cup () is a Greek association football one-match competition, which is contested annually either between the champions of the previous Super League Greece season and the holders of the Greek Cup, or, in the case of a double, between the winners of the Greek cup and the finalists. History From 1948 until 1976 several matches between the Greek champions and the Cup winners were played, but without official recognition. The instutition got officially started in 1980 under PSAT. 1980–81 Greek Football Cup
The 1980–81 Greek Football Cup was the 39th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 58 teams participated, 18 from Alpha Ethniki and 40 from Beta Ethniki. It was held in six rounds, included the final. Concerning the two previous years, two-legged tie would be extended in third round too. Even if many Alpha Ethniki teams eliminated from the first round, afterwards there were very interesting matches. AEK Athens had the most difficult draws, after they eliminated Panathinaikos and Aris, in order to be eliminated by PAOK with two losses in the semi-finals (second leg became in Chalcis due to punishment). Olympiacos had to win Panionios during the extra time of second leg in third round in order to qualify, while the surprise of season were Panegialios, which qualify to semi-finals, after qualifies against OFI and Doxa Drama, both teams of Alpha Ethniki.
