Christopher Lynch (businessman)
Christopher James Lynch is an Australian businessman who is currently a director of Westpac. He is a former chief financial officer and board member of Anglo-Australian resources companies Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, and a CEO of Transurban. Lynch was a member of the AFL Commission between 2008 and 2014. He played five matches for Geelong Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL, now AFL). Early life and education Lynch was born in Broken Hill in Western New South Wales (NSW) in 1953. His grandfather, Paddy O'Neill, was a notable union leader in Broken Hill. Lynch completed a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree at the Gordon Institute of Technology (later known as Deakin University). He later completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Deakin University. He is member of CPA Australia. Christopher Lynch (mayor)
Christopher Lynch was Mayor of Galway, fl. 1601–1604. A member of one of The Tribes of Galway, Lynch was elected mayor during the Nine Years' War (Ireland), which had devastated Ireland and left the town of Galway deeply impoverished and depopulated. The town itself had been besieged twice in the 1590s, and though not seized, had suffered the burning of the suburbs and the seizing of goods and livestock. In addition, the town was obliged to pay for the maintenance of the town garrison, amid controversy, since 1579. To this end he sent one of the merchants, Nicholas Darcy, to London to seek much-needed payment and cancellation of debts. The most dramatic event of his term occurred on 4 October 1601 when Lynch took the sworn statements of Andrew Lynch fitz Henry, merchant, and Doctor Thomas Lynch fitz Nicholas. Christopher Lynch (born 1963) is a political scientist and theorist who focuses his research on Machiavelli. Lynch has published three books and numerous articles in academic journals. Publications Lynch's ''Machiavelli on War'' treats war and politics in all of Machiavelli's writings, from memoranda and personal letters, to poetry, to his famous ''Prince'' and ''Discourses on Livy.'' Previously, Lynch translated, edited, and provided an introduction to Niccolò Machiavelli's ''Art of War''. While staying true to the original text, Lynch was also able to translate it into modern English. He also provided an extensive interpretive essay.
