Chongming Line
Line 22 of the Shanghai Metro, formerly named Chongming line () is a rapid transit line on the Shanghai Metro that is part of the 2018–2023 Shanghai Metro plan. The Chongming line was previously treated as the last phase of Line 9, and was Line 19 until 2016, when it was renamed the Chongming line. It would then be renamed as Line 22 in September 2024. The Chongming line will start at in Pudong and end at in Chongming District, and will interchange with Lines 9 and 12. It will be long, including a underground section. The phase I construction is expected to be opened at the end of 2026. Pudong
Pudong is a list of administrative divisions of Shanghai, district of Shanghai located east of the Huangpu River, Huangpu, the river which flows through central Shanghai. The name ''Pudong'' was originally applied to the Huangpu's east bank (geography), bank, directly across from the west bank or Puxi, the historic city center. Chongming District
Chongming District () is the northernmost district of the provincial-level municipality of Shanghai. Chongming consists of three low-lying inhabited alluvial islands at the mouth of the Yangtze north of the Shanghai peninsula: Chongming, Changxing, and Hengsha. Following its massive expansion in the 20th century, Chongming is now the 2nd-largest island administered by the People's Republic of China and the 3rd-largest in Greater China, after Hainan. Chongming does not, however, administer all of the island: owing to its continual expansion from sediment deposited by the Yangtze, it has merged with formerly separate islands and now includes Jiangsu province's pene-exclave townships of Haiyong and Qilong. Line 9 (Shanghai Metro)
Line 9 is a southwest-northeast line of the Shanghai Metro network. The line runs from in Songjiang District to in Pudong. The line is colored light blue on system maps. History In the initial planning of Line 9, the entire line was from Fengjing to Chongming Island. Later, the plan to extend to Fengjing was cancelled, and the section to Chongming Island was changed to Chongming line. The first phase of Line 9, from to stations, opened on December 29, 2007. It uses the Bombardier Movia trains which were lended to line 1. Line 9 did not directly connect to the rest of the Shanghai Metro network until the opening of the Line 9 portion of the station on December 28, 2008. Line 19 (Shanghai Metro)
Line 19 is an under construction subway line on the Shanghai Metro. Its termini are planned to be Baoshan Railway Station and Hongjian Road. It is planned to be in length, with 34 stations. The line hopes to ease car congestion along Pudong South Road, as well as reduce crowding on the southern part of line 8, and the northern sections of lines 1 and 3. The line was announced by the Municipal government in 2016 and is planned to finish construction between Baoshan Railway Station and Yierba Jinian Road in July 2027. The construction period for the rest of the line was delayed due to construction uncertainties around Tian'ai Road, and the opening date has yet to be determined. Line 12 (Shanghai Metro)
Line 12 is an east–west line of the Shanghai Metro network. It runs from in Pudong to in Minhang District. The first section from to Jinhai Road opened on 29 December 2013, and additional stations up to Qufu Road were in operation by 10 May 2014. The remaining stations opened on 19 December 2015. Since the opening of the extension in December 2015, Line 12 has the most interchanges with other metro lines in the Shanghai Metro. The line is colored forest green on system maps.
