Sandy Cay (South China Sea)
Sandy Cay is a small coral reef in the northern Thitu Reefs of the Spratly Islands, South China Sea. It consists of multiple shallow reef platforms with dynamic sandbanks and is claimed by China, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Sandy Cay Reef lies approximately 1.5 nautical miles northwest of Thitu Island and 9.3 nautical miles northeast of Subi Reef within the western atoll rim of the Thitu Reefs. An acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) is a hydroacoustic current meter similar to a sonar, used to measure water current velocities over a depth range using the Doppler effect of sound waves scattered back from particles within the water column.
