Chinese Taipei Men's National Basketball Team
The Chinese Taipei men's national basketball team is the men's basketball team representing the Republic of China on Taiwan in international competitions, organised and run by the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA; ). The team was known as Formosa prior to the implementation of the Nagoya Resolution in 1981. Led by team leader, Yi Kuo-juei (), Chinese Taipei's fourth-place finish at the 1959 FIBA World Championship is the second-best finish of an Asian team at the World Championship, only behind the Philippines' third-place finish at the 1954 FIBA World Championship. Chinese Taipei Basketball Association
The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA; ) is the governing body of basketball in Taiwan (Republic of China). Its official name in Chinese is Republic of China Basketball Association (). The CTBA is a member of FIBA and FIBA Asia. The federation is responsible for the Chinese Taipei men's national basketball team and the Chinese Taipei women's national basketball team and their Under-age teams. The 1954 FIBA World Championship (also called the 2nd World Basketball Championship – 1954) was an international basketball tournament held by the International Basketball Federation in Ginásio do Maracanãzinho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 23 October to 5 November 1954. Twelve nations participated in the tournament. The 1975 Asian Basketball Confederation Championship for Men were held in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the first time that the Chinese national team participated in the tournament, as Taiwan previously competed instead of the Chinese mainland. Basketball At The 1956 Summer Olympics
Basketball at the 1956 Summer Olympics was the fourth appearance of the sport of Basketball at the Summer Olympics, basketball as an official Olympic medal event. Fifteen nations, an unusually low number for the basketball tournament, competed in the event, with 174 participants. A total number of 56 games of basketball were played. The teams were divided into four pools, with four teams in three of the pools and only three in the fourth. Every team played against each other team in its pool once. The top two teams from each pool advanced to the quarterfinals, where again they were split into pools of four. Teams again played every other team in their pool, with the top two in each advancing to the semifinal and the bottom two entering a pool for 5th through 8th places. Eliminated teams also played in consolation matches with the same structure as the quarterfinals and finals, but for 9th through 15th places. The games were held at the Royal Exhibition Building.
