Chief Of Joint Operations (Sweden)
The Chief of Joint Operations (CJO) (, C OPL) is a three-star role within the Swedish Armed Forces, responsible the Joint Forces Command (JFC). The Chief of Joint Operations is subordinate to the Chief of Defence and is responsible, among other duties, for operations to defend Sweden against armed attacks, as well as for operations to uphold Sweden's territorial integrity and protect Swedish interests. Organisation At the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters' reorganization on 1 April 2007, the Joint Forces Command (JFC) (''Insatsledningen'', INS) was created. It commands the Swedish Armed Forces' missions on behalf of the Supreme Commander. Its assignment is to plan, command and follow up missions, both in Sweden and abroad. Vice admiral (VAdm; , Vam) is a three-star commissioned naval officer rank in the Swedish Navy. Vice admiral ranks above rear admiral and below admiral. Vice admiral is equivalent to the rank of lieutenant general. History In Sweden, the admiral's rank first appeared during the reign of Gustav I, who in 1522 gave it to Erik Fleming, a Council of the Realm. During Gustav's reign as king and throughout the latter part of the 16th century, the highest command of a fleet was led by a ''översteamiral'' ("colonel admiral"), to whose assistant a ''underamiral'' was appointed. Swedish Air Force
The Swedish Air Force ( or just ) is the air force Military branch, branch of the Swedish Armed Forces. History The Swedish Air Force was created on 1 July 1926 when the aircraft units of the Army and Navy were merged. Because of the escalating international tension during the 1930s the Air Force was reorganized and expanded from four to seven squadrons. World War II When World War II broke out in 1939 further expansion was initiated and this substantial expansion was not finished until the end of the war. Although Sweden never entered the war, a large air force was considered necessary to ward off the threat of invasion and to resist pressure through military threats from the great powers. Vice Admiral Anders Jan-Eric Törnqvist (born 9 October 1959) is a retired Swedish Navy officer. Before his retirement in 2020, he served as the Chief of Joint Operations of the Swedish Armed Forces from 2016 to 2020 and as Commandant General in Stockholm from 2019 to 2020. Career Thörnqvist began his career at the age of fifteen in the Swedish Sea Cadet Corps. He was commissioned into the Swedish Navy in 1976 and served as a basic Private and Petty Officer afloat on various types of ships in the Navy, including Minesweepers, Destroyers, Fast Patrol and Picket Boats. Rear Admiral Anders Lennart Grenstad (born 22 July 1958) is a retired Swedish Navy officer. He served in the Swedish Navy for 39 years. Lieutenant General Anders Tommy Silwer (born 20 January 1959) is a retired Swedish Air Force officer. His last position was as the Chief of Armed Forces Training & Procurement from 2014 to 2017. Early life Silwer was born in Båstad, Sweden and grew up in the countryside of northwest Scania. His interest in flying came at an age of 10 when his cousin brought him along in a private aircraft. General Sverker John Olof Göranson (born 3 May 1954) is a retired Swedish Army officer. Sverkerson was commissioned as an officer in 1977. During the 1990s, Göranson embarked on an international career. He completed the Swedish National Defence College's Command Course and attended several courses in international humanitarian law before relocating to the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
