Chesapeake People
The Chesepian (Chesapeake) were a Native Americans in the United States, Native American tribe who lived near present-day South Hampton Roads in the U.S. state of Virginia. They occupied an area which is now in the independent cities of Norfolk, Virginia, Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia, Virginia Beach (formerly Norfolk County, Virginia, Norfolk County and Princess Anne County, Virginia, Princess Anne County). Name The name ''Chesapeake'' is an Anglicisation (linguistics), anglicisation of the Algonquian word, ''K'che-sepi-ack'', which translates as "country on a great river."
