Charlotte Von Siebold
Marian Theodore Charlotte Heidenreich von Siebold (12 September 1788 – 8 July 1859) was a German physician. She is regarded as the first gynecologist in Germany. She was the daughter of the physicians Damian and Regina von Siebold and was an early assistant of her parents. She graduated with a degree in obstetrics at the Giessen University in 1817. She assisted at both Queen Victoria's birth on 24 May 1819 at Kensington Palace in London and Queen Victoria's first cousin and husband Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha's birth on 26 August 1819 at Schloss Rosenau, Coburg, Rosenau Palace near Coburg. Life Origin and education Charlotte was the first child of Georg Heiland and his wife Regina von Siebold, Regina. Konrad Johann Martin Langenbeck
Konrad Johann Martin Langenbeck (5 December 1776 – 24 January 1851) was a German surgeon, ophthalmologist and anatomist who was a native of Horneburg. Biography Langenbeck studied medicine at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, and in 1802 received his habilitation under August Gottlieb Richter (1742–1812) at University of Göttingen. In 1804 he became an associate professor, and three years later established his own institute for surgery and ophthalmology. In 1814 he was appointed full professor at Göttingen and general surgeon of the Hannoverian Army. For nearly fifty years he taught classes at the University of Göttingen, and among his better known students were surgeon Louis Stromeyer (1804–1876) and his nephew Bernhard von Langenbeck (1810–1887). He was considered one of the better surgeons during the first half of the 19th century, known for his speed and precision involving amputations. The Order of Merit of Philip the Magnanimous () was an order of chivalry established by Louis II, Grand Duke of Hesse on 1 May 1840, the name day of Philip I, Landgrave of Hesse, in his honour to award extraordinary military or civil merit. It was the second-highest order of the Grand Duchy of Hesse before 1876, when it was displaced to third by the revived Order of the Golden Lion, the former paramount order of the Electorate of Hesse. After the First World War and the fall of the German monarchies, the order—along with all other grand ducal decorations—was formally abolished in 1919.
