Charlotte Osborne, Duchess Of Leeds
Charlotte Osborne, Duchess of Leeds (16 March 1776 – 30 July 1856), formerly Lady Charlotte Townshend, was the wife of George Osborne, 6th Duke of Leeds. She was the daughter of George Townshend, 1st Marquess Townshend, by his second wife, the former Anne Montgomery. Personal life On 17 August 1797, Osborne married the duke, then Marquess of Carmarthen, at East Rainham in Kent.L. G. Anne Mee
Anne Mee, née Foldsone (1765–1851) was a prolific English miniature painter of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Life The eldest child of John Foldsone, she was educated at Madame Pomier's school in Queen Square, Bloomsbury, London. She began to paint at age 12, with tuition from George Romney, and after her father died in 1784, did so to support her family. Anne Mee exhibited occasionally at the Royal Academy between 1815 and 1837. She died at Hammersmith, 28 May 1851. Family Anne Foldsone married Joseph Mee, an Irish barrister from Armagh, in 1793; they had six children. A son, Arthur Patrick Mee, practised as an architect, and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1824 to 1837. Career As Miss Foldsone, she received royal and aristocratic patronage; and Horace Walpole, in his letters to Mary Berry of 1790–1, mentioned that she was at Windsor, painting the princesses. George Osborne, 6th Duke Of Leeds
George William Frederick Osborne, 6th Duke of Leeds, (21 July 1775 – 10 July 1838), styled Earl of Danby until 1789 and Marquess of Carmarthen from 1789 to 1799, was a British peer and politician. He served as Master of the Horse between 1827 and 1830. He also was Governor of Scilly. Background Leeds was born in London, the eldest son of Francis Osborne, 5th Duke of Leeds, and his first wife, Amelia, Baroness Darcy de Knayth, daughter of Robert Darcy, 4th Earl of Holderness. Francis Osborne, 1st Baron Godolphin, was his younger brother. His parents divorced in 1779. In January 1784, aged eight, he succeeded as 13th Baron Darcy de Knayth and 10th Baron Conyers on the early death of his mother. In 1799 he also succeeded his father in the dukedom of Leeds. Francis George Godolphin D'Arcy D'Arcy-Osborne, 7th Duke of Leeds (21 May 1798 – 4 May 1859), styled Earl of Danby from birth until 1799 and Marquess of Carmarthen from 1799 until 1838, was a British peer and politician. Anne Townshend, Marchioness Townshend (c.1752 – 29 March 1819), formerly Anne Montgomery, was the second wife of George Townshend, 1st Marquess Townshend, previously Viscount Townshend. She was the daughter of Sir William Montgomery, 1st Baronet (1717–1788), and his first wife, Hannah. Her only brother William died in 1777, while on active service during the American War of Independence, and her half-brother George inherited the baronetcy. George Townshend, 1st Marquess Townshend
Field Marshal George Townshend, 1st Marquess Townshend, PC (28 February 172414 September 1807), known as The Viscount Townshend from 1764 to 1787, was a British soldier and politician. After serving at the Battle of Dettingen during the War of the Austrian Succession and the Battle of Culloden during the Jacobite Rising, Townshend took command of the British forces for the closing stages of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham during the Seven Years' War. He went on to be Lord Lieutenant of Ireland or Viceroy where he introduced measures aimed at increasing the size of Irish regiments, reducing corruption in Ireland and improving the Irish economy. Sackville Walter Lane-Fox (24 March 1797 – 18 August 1874), was a British Conservative Party politician. Background Lane-Fox was the son of James Fox-Lane, of Bramham Park, West Yorkshire, by the Honourable Mary Lucy, daughter of George Pitt, 1st Baron Rivers. He was the brother of George Lane-Fox and the uncle of Augustus Pitt Rivers. Political career Lane-Fox was returned to parliament as one of two representatives for Helston in 1831. He became the sole representative after the 'Great' or 'First' Reform Act of that year reduced the low-electorate constituency to one seat. He lost the seat in 1835, and remained out of the House of Commons until 1840, when he was returned for Beverley in East Yorkshire. He lost the seat the following year and was re-elected to the Commons the year after as one of two MPs for Ipswich, Suffolk. In 1847 he was once again elected for Beverley, a seat he held until 1852.
