Charles August, Prince Of Nassau-Weilburg
Charles August; 17 September 1685, Weilburg – 9 November 1753) was from 1719 to 1753 Prince of Nassau-Weilburg. Charles August was the second son of John Ernst of Nassau-Weilburg and Maria Polyxena of Leiningen-Dagsburg-Hartenburg. In his youth, he worked as a diplomat for Saxony; for a while he was the Saxon ambassador in Paris. He succeeded his father as Prince in Weilburg on 27 February 1719. In 1733 and 1734, he commanded the imperial troops on the Rhine as an imperial cavalry general. In 1737 he assumed the title of Prince, which family had been awarded in 1688. In 1688 the family had not, however, obtained a seat on the princely bench in the Imperial Diet, and in protest, they had not used their title. In 1737, the seat in the diet was finally awarded and Charles August started using his princely title. Charles August died in 1753 and was buried in the chapel of Weilburg. Anna Maria of Hesse-Kassel (27 January 1567, Kassel – 21 November 1626, Neunkirchen) was a princess of Hesse-Kassel by birth and by marriage Countess of Nassau-Saarbrücken. Life Anna Maria was the eldest daughter of Landgrave William IV of Hesse-Kassel (1532–1592) from his marriage to Sabine (1549–1581), daughter of Duke Christopher of Württemberg. She married on 8 June 1589 in Kassel Count Louis II of Nassau-Weilburg (1565–1627). He had met Anna Maria during his Grand Tour and had been well received by Anna Maria's father and her uncle Louis IV. In 1590 the couple moved in with Louis's father, Albert in Ottweiler. In 1593 Louis took over the government in Nassau-Weilburg. Anna Maria helped organize the poor relief and set up a court pharmacy. In 1626 Anna Maria fled from the plague from Saarbrücken to Neunkirchen where she died of the plague. Anna Maria was buried in the crypt of the collegiate church of St. Arnual in Saarbrücken. Louis II of Nassau-Weilburg (9 August 1565, Weilburg – 8 November 1627, Saarbrücken) was a count of Nassau-Weilburg. Life Louis was the eldest son of Count Albert of Nassau-Weilburg-Ottweiler and Countess Anna of Nassau-Dillenburg. His family moved in 1575 from Weilburg to Ottweiler. After his education, he traveled through Europe, in particular the French-speaking part of Switzerland. He also visited France and princely courts in Germany. During his visit to William IV of Hesse-Kassel, he met William's daughter Anna Maria and fell in love with her. He married her on 4 June 1589. After Albert died on 11 November 1593, the inheritance was divided among his three sons. Louis received the areas Ottweiler, Homburg, Kirchheim and Lahr in the left bank of the Rhine.
