Ceratiola Ericoides
''Ceratiola'' is a genus of flowering plants with a single species, ''Ceratiola ericoides'', a shrub endemic to the Southeastern United States. Names ''C. ericoides'' is commonly known as Florida rosemary, sand heath, scrub rosemary, or sandhill rosemary. Description Florida rosemary can grow to tall. The growth form is a rounded shrub with dense branching. Dark green leaves are needle-like, eight to twelve mm long and one mm wide, and smell like the herb rosemary. The yellow to brown flowers are small. The green or yellow fruit is in diameter, and is a juicy drupe containing two seeds. Reproduction The Florida rosemary is dioecious and wind pollinated. Flowers are in the leaf axils on the previous years growth. Flowers bloom on leaf axils of the previous year's growth from September through October. Fruits ripen in January through April. André Michaux
André Michaux (' → ahn- mee-; sometimes Anglicisation, anglicised as Andrew Michaud; 8 March 174611 October 1802) was a French botanist and explorer. He is most noted for his study of North American flora. In addition Michaux collected specimens in England, Spain, France, and even Persia. Eastern Towhee
The eastern towhee (''Pipilo erythrophthalmus''), also known as chewink, joree, or joree bird, is a large American sparrow, New World sparrow. Florida scrub is a forest ecoregion found throughout Florida in the United States. It is found on coastal and inland sand ridges and is characterized by an evergreen Xerophyte, xeromorphic plant community dominated by shrubs and dwarf oaks. Because the low-nutrient sandy soils do not retain moisture, the ecosystem is effectively an arid one. Wildfires infrequently occur in the Florida scrub.
