Centre International De Rencontres Mathématiques
The Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) is a mathematics research institute associated with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Société Mathématique de France (SMF). It is located in Luminy, Marseille, France, and is affiliated with Aix-Marseille University. CIRM hosts weekly workshops on diverse topics where mathematicians and scientists from all over the world come to do collaborative research. Modeled as a "Medici villas, villa Medici of mathematics", it receives around 3,500 visitors per year. History In 1954, a report from the CNRS discussed potential sites for a meeting place to hold international seminars and workshops in mathematics similar to the Mathematical Research Institute of Oberwolfach, Mathematisches Forschunginstitut Oberwolfach. Alex Grossmann
Alexander Grossmann (5 August 1930 – 12 February 2019) was a French-American physicist of Croatian origin. Early life Aleksandar Grossmann was born to a Jewish family in Zagreb, where he was attending a gymnasium when World War II in Yugoslavia started. Forced to leave school and convert to Catholicism under the rule of the so-called Independent State of Croatia, he and his family fled to Montecatini Terme in Italy, and then Geneva in Switzerland. After the war, he returned to Zagreb and completed high school as well as graduated mathematics at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb in 1952. Career Grossmann started work at the Ruđer Bošković Institute, and collaborated with international visiting scholars between 1952 and 1955. Konstantin "Kostya" Mikhailovich Khanin () is a Russian mathematician and physicist. He served as the chair of the Department of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Background Khanin received his PhD from the Landau Institute of Theoretical Physics in Moscow and continued working there as a Research Associate until 1994. Afterwards, he taught at Princeton University, at the Isaac Newton Institute in Cambridge, and at Heriot-Watt University before joining the faculty at the University of Toronto. Mariusz Tomasz Lemańczyk (born 3 February 1958) is a Polish mathematician known for his contributions in ergodic theory and dynamical systems. Life and career He graduated from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in 1981, in mathematics, and completed his PhD in 1985. In 1987, he received the Kazimierz Kuratowski Prize, considered one of the most prestigious awards for young Polish mathematicians. He received his habilitation at the University of Warsaw in 1991, after which he joined the faculty at Nicolaus Copernicus University. Dipendra Prasad
Dipendra Prasad (born 1960) is an Indian mathematician. He is an Emeritus Fellow of mathematics at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He is a number theorist known for his work in the areas of automorphic representations and the Gan–Gross–Prasad conjecture. He was the president of Commission for Developing Countries (CDC) of International Mathematical Union (2018–2022) and of Indian Math Society (2021–2022). Two of his siblings, Gopal Prasad and Shrawan Kumar, are also mathematicians. François Lalonde
François Lalonde (born 17 September 1955 in Montréal) is a Canadian mathematician, specializing in symplectic geometry and symplectic topology. Education Lalonde received his bachelor's degree in physics from the Université de Montréal in 1976, at the age of 20. In the following year, he completed his bachelor's degree in mathematics. In 1979 he completed his master's degree in logic and theoretical computer science (Computational complexity theory and NP-completeness). Hans Georg Feichtinger (born 16 June 1951) is an Austrian mathematician. He is Professor in the mathematical faculty of the University of Vienna. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Fourier Analysis and Applications (JFAA) and associate editor to several other journals. He is one of the founders and head of the Numerical Harmonic Analysis Group (NuHAG) at University of Vienna.
