The Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA; English: International Centre for Pure and Applied Mathematics) is a category 2 UNESCO centre based in Nice with the mission to promote research in mathematics with developing countries. CIMPA is an association under the 1901 French law on associations and is funded by government agencies of France, Norway, Spain, Switzerland and Germany. History Following a recommendation made during the 18th session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris in 1974, the creation of CIMPA was decided during the 19th session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Nairobi in 1976. Pierre Marie René Ernest Waldeck-Rousseau (; 2 December 184610 August 1904) was a French Republican politician who served for three years as the Prime Minister of France. Early life Pierre Waldeck-Rousseau was born in Nantes, Brittany. His father, René Waldeck-Rousseau, a barrister at the Nantes bar and a leader of the local republican party, figured in the revolution of 1848 as one of the deputies elected to the Constituent Assembly for Loire Inférieure. The son was a delicate child whose eyesight made reading difficult, and his early education was therefore entirely oral. He studied law at Poitiers and in Paris, where he took his licentiate in January 1869. His father's record ensured his reception in high republican circles. Attia Abdel Salam Ashour (, 13 September 1924 – 17 April 2017) was an Egyptian emeritus professor of applied mathematics at Cairo University. He was a former president of the Arab Union of Mathematical and Physics. A former director of Advanced Schools on the Physics of the Earth.
