Kunsthalle
A kunsthalle () is a facility that mounts temporary art exhibitions, similar to an art gallery. It is distinct from an art museum by not having a permanent collection. In the German-speaking regions of Europe, ''Kunsthallen'' are often operated by a non-profit ' ("art association" or "art society"), and have associated artists, symposia, studios and workshops. They are sometimes called a ''Kunsthaus''. William Kentridge
William Kentridge (born 28 April 1955) is a South African artist best known for his prints, drawings, and animated films. He is especially noted for a sequence of hand-drawn animated films he produced during the 1990s, constructed by filming a drawing, making erasures and changes, and filming it again. He continues this process meticulously, giving each change to the drawing a quarter of a second's to two seconds' screen time. A single drawing will be altered and filmed this way until the end of a scene. These palimpsest-like drawings are later displayed along with the films as finished pieces of art. Biennale Of Moving Images
In the art world, a biennale ( , ; ), is a large-scale international contemporary art exhibition. The term was popularised by the Venice Biennale, which was first held in 1895, but the concept of such a large scale, and intentionally international event goes back to at least the 1851 Great Exhibition in London. The 1990s saw the boom of art biennials, a period of multiplication of this exhibition form during which art biennials grew from approximately five to over 250 internationally. Although typically used to refer to art festivals or exhibitions which occur every two years, the term is not always applied strictly. The Centre pour l'Image Contemporaine or CIC was a contemporary art exhibition centre in Geneva, Switzerland. CIC was established in 1985 to organize events and exhibitions of images using new technologies such as video, multimedia, and the Internet, as well as more traditional photography and film. Joshua Smith (born 1976) is an American artist based in New York City. Biography Smith was born in Okinawa, Japan and raised in Tennessee. Trained as a printmaker, he initially began working with collages in the early 2000s. He combined photocopies, documents and drawing in layers to create abstract images reacting to surreal and expressionist ways of painting. He first became known in the early 2000s, however, for a body of work that consisted of paintings featuring letters from his own name: Smith used the letters as a base for building abstract imagery. In recent years, he has made numerous partly-figurative series, including series featuring palm trees, skeletons, fishes and devils, among other varied themes. Shirana Shahbazi (; born 1974) is an Iranian-born photographer who now lives in Switzerland. Her work includes installations and large prints of conceptual photography. Thomas Scheibitz
Thomas Scheibitz (born 1968 in Radeberg, East Germany) is a German painter and sculptor. Together with Tino Sehgal he created the German pavilion on the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005. He lives and works in Berlin. Life and work The son of an East German stonemason, Thomas Scheibitz was born in Radeberg, Germany in 1968. A student of Professor Ralf Kerbach, he studied alongside Frank Nitsche and Eberhard Havekost at the Dresden Art Academy.
