Catholic Bishops' Conference Of Pakistan
The Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference (PCBC) serves as the assembly of catholic bishops in Pakistan. Its primary objectives are to facilitate coordinated discussions on issues affecting the Church and to formulate common policies and actions that support the Church's mission in the country. On 18 April 1990, the PCBC made the decision to establish a new seminary for philosophical studies in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore, recognising the need for an additional institution beyond the Christ the King Seminary in Karachi, which was previously the only major seminary in Pakistan. In 1997, the PCBC further expanded its efforts by approving the establishment of the National Catholic Institute of Theology in Karachi to provide theological education in line with the renewal inspired by the Second Vatican Council. Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Lahore
The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lahore is a Latin Metropolitan Archdiocese in Punjab province, Pakistan. Its episcopal seat is the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lahore. History In 1594 the Mughal emperor Akbar invited some Catholic priests from Goa to take up permanent residence at his court. Christ The King Seminary (Pakistan)
The Christ the King Seminary is a Roman Catholic seminary in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, Karachi, Pakistan; located in adjacent to the Portiuncula Friary. In its early years most of the faculty were provided by the Franciscans. It has been described as "the pioneering theological institution for the Catholic Church in Pakistan." The high-water mark of the seminary's 50-year existence was the recruitment of 98 seminarians for the class that entered in 1990. The Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, commonly known as the or , was the 21st and most recent ecumenical council of the Catholic Church. The council met each autumn from 1962 to 1965 in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City for sessions of 8 and 12 weeks. Joseph Cordeiro
Joseph Marie Anthony Cordeiro (19 January 1918 – 11 February 1994) was a Catholic prelate who in 1973 became the first Pakistani cardinal. Early life Cordeiro was born to a Goan family which hailed from the village of Salvador do Mundo in Goa. He was educated at St Patrick's High School, Karachi, the University of Bombay and Oxford University. Armando Trindade (born 25 October 1927 in Karachi, British India (now Pakistan)) studied at St Patrick's High School, Karachi. He received his religious training at the Papal Seminary, Kandy, Sri Lanka, and was ordained a priest on 6 May 1950. He undertook graduate studies at Oxford University in England, and then attended Stanford University in the United States for his doctoral degree. Until 1962 he was principal of the St Lawrence's Boys High School in Karachi. He went on to become principal of St Paul's English High School where he remained until 1973. Simeon Anthony Pereira (19 October 1927, Sukkur, British India - 22 August 2006, Karachi) was a former archbishop of Karachi. Life Pereira was educated at St Patrick's High School, Karachi. He received his religious training at the Papal Seminary, Kandy, Sri Lanka and was ordained a priest on 24 August 1951. He first worked as secretary to Franciscan Archbishop James Cornelius van Miltenburg of Karachi, and Chaplain to the Sisters and flock at Manora. Lawrence John Saldanha (born 12 June 1936) is an Indian-born retired Pakistani archbishop. Born in Mangalore, India, he received his religious training at the Christ the King seminary in Karachi and was ordained a priest in Lahore, Pakistan on 16 January 1960. Biography He also earned a doctorate in systematic theology from Rome-based Pontifical Urbaniana University. He participated in the Second Vatican Council. He served in different parishes in Lahore. Joseph Arshad (born August 25, 1964) is the Catholic Bishop of Islamabad-Rawalpindi in Pakistan. Biography Arshad was born on August 25, 1964, in Lahore. After completing school, he began his priestly education at St. Mary's Minor Seminary, Lahore. He continued his studies at Christ the King Seminary in Karachi. After his ordination on November 1, 1991, he was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph's Church and also given charge of St. Peter's School in Gujranwala. For a while he also studied journalism.
