Ian Casady
Ian Casady is an American professional ballet dancer who currently performs as a principal dancer with the Houston Ballet. Born in Marin County, California, Casady trained there with Jody White and David Roxander at Dance Theater Seven beginning when he was nine or ten, then studied at Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy. Casady joined Houston Ballet in 1998 after auditioning for the summer program, and then joining the company in the spring, he was then promoted to soloist in 2002, and to principal dancer in March 2007. His repertoire includes the Prince and Drosselmeyer in ''The Nutcracker'', Marc Antony in ''Cleopatra'', ''Giselle'', ''Swan Lake'', ''The Snow Maiden'', and ''Peter Pan''. John William Casady (born April 13, 1944) is an American bass guitarist, best known as a member of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. Jefferson Airplane became the first successful exponent of the San Francisco Sound. Singles including " Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" charted in 1967 and 1968. Casady, along with the other members of Jefferson Airplane, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996. Early life Casady was born in Washington D.C., the son of Mary Virginia (''née'' Quimby) and William Robert Casady. His father was of half Irish Protestant and half Polish Jewish ancestry. Simon Casady (June 16, 1852 – March 25, 1928) was a prominent banker in Iowa, best known for his role in organizing the Des Moines Bank, which later evolved into the Des Moines Savings Bank. Casady served as the president of the Des Moines Savings Bank and the Central State Bank, as well as the vice president of the Iowa National Bank and the treasurer of the Bankers Life Association. Simon Casady (July 17, 1908 – March 27, 1995) was a journalist and political figure who was influential in California Democratic Party politics, serving as president of the California Democratic Council. Due to his publishing power in the southwest, he helped launch the political careers of Barry Goldwater, Lyndon B. Johnson, Lloyd Bentsen and other politicians. Casady was known for his liberal political positions, including his opposition to the Vietnam War, support for the civil rights movement, environmentalism, and the Farmworkers' Movement, and was known as a frequent defender of Fidel Castro and the Sandinistas. Thomas Casady (June 6, 1881 – September 9, 1958) was the third missionary bishop of Oklahoma and the first diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Oklahoma in the Episcopal Church. Early life and education Casady was born in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of prominent banker Simon Casady and Sarah Conarroe Casady (Griffiths) and grandson of Iowa state senator Phineas M. Casady. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts in 1902. In 1903 he entered General Theological Seminary and graduated in 1906.
