Carvin
Carvin () is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France about northeast of Lens. History During World War I, from October 1914 to October 1918, Carvin was occupied by the Germans. Over 6,000 soldiers are buried in one of the largest German cemeteries in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. Carvin was awarded the Croix de Guerre on 28 September 1920. In May 1940, during the German invasion of France, a battle in Carvin's town centre allowed the bulk of British and French troops to escape to the Dunkirk evacuation. Once the allies had gone, the troops of the Wehrmacht arrested and murdered many miners at Arras. In 1947, Carvin lost nearly a third of its territory with the separation of the commune of Libercourt. Kłodzko (; ; ; ) is a historic town in south-western Poland, in the region of Lower Silesia. It is situated in the centre of the Kłodzko Valley, on the Eastern Neisse (Nysa Kłodzka) river. Philippe Kemel
Philippe Kemel (born 28 June 1948) is a French politician who is the mayor of Carvin and a former member of the National Assembly of France. He is a member of the Socialist Party. Early life Kemel was born in Emmerin, Nord. Kemel completed his secondary education at Gondecourt High School and studied economics, sociology and accounting in Lille. An economist and sociologist by training, he teaches logistic economics at the University of Lille and also does accounting for companies. Political career Kemel joined the Socialist Party in 1974 at the time of the first candidacy of François Mitterrand. He had been a member of the Unified Socialist Party. Since 1977, Kemel has been a candidate on the municipal list in Carvin. He was elected to the union list of the left for the first time in 1983 and since then has been an elected official.
