Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom K-1
The women's K-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 25 and 27 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 27 canoeists from 27 nations competed. Background This was the ninth appearance of the event, having previously appeared in every Summer Olympics with slalom canoeing: 1972 and 1992 to 2016. Reigning Olympic champion Maialen Chourraut of Spain made her fourth Olympic appearance (she also took bronze in 2012), attempting to defend her title. Reigning World Champion Eva Terčelj of Slovenia also competed as a medal hopeful. She placed 13th in 2012. Qualification A National Olympic Committee (NOC) could enter only 1 qualified canoeist in the women's slalom K-1 event. The Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre is a whitewater paddling venue, constructed to host the whitewater slalom, canoeing slalom events for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It is first artificial slalom course in Japan. The total construction cost of this venue was around 7 billion yen (about $64 million) and it has the capacity 7,500 spectators. References

Kimberley Woods (born 8 September 1995) is a British Canoe slalom, slalom canoeist who has competed in C1, K1 and KX1 at the international level since 2011. A six time world and eight time European champion, she won the bronze medal in both the Canoeing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's slalom K-1, K1 event and the Canoeing at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's slalom kayak cross, first ever women's kayak-cross (KX1) event in Paris at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Life Personal life Woods was born in 1995, one of four children living in Rugby. Aged four she watched her aunt Diane, who was a silver medallist at the 1994 World Junior canoeing Championships, and was helped by her grandparents to get her own canoe.
