Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom C-1
The women's C-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 28 and 29 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 22 canoeists from 22 nations competed. The event was won by Jessica Fox (canoeist), Jessica Fox from Australia, who already had three medals (one silver and two bronzes) in K-1 slalom from the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympics. Briton Mallory Franklin won silver, and German Andrea Herzog bronze. For both of them it was the first Olympic medal. Background This was the debut appearance of the event, replacing the men's C-2. Previously, there had been three men's events (C-1, C-2, and K-1) and only one women's event (K-1) in slalom canoeing at the Olympics; as of 2020, both men and women will have the C-1 and K-1 events. Kasai Canoe Slalom Course
The Kasai Canoe Slalom Centre is a whitewater paddling venue, constructed to host the whitewater slalom, canoeing slalom events for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It is first artificial slalom course in Japan. The total construction cost of this venue was around 7 billion yen (about $64 million) and it has the capacity 7,500 spectators. Haley Daniels (born 14 December 1990) is a Canadian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2010. Daniels started canoeing at age 6 and competing at age 12 in Calgary. Lois Betteridge (born December 17, 1997) is a Canadian slalom canoeist competing in both canoeing and kayaking competitions. She won the silver medal in the women's slalom C-1 event at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. In 2018, Betteridge and Yannick Laviolette finished in 6th place in the C-2 mixed event at the 2018 Canoe Slalom World Cup. Jane Nicholas is a slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2009. Jane represented New Zealand from 2009 to 2018, before switching to the Cook Islands for the 2019 season, her father's country of birth. Career Nicholas made her international debut for New Zealand aged 16 at the 2009 Canoe Slalom World Cup, where she finished 26th in the overall ranking. Alja Kozorog (born 17 December 1996) is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2012. She is from Idrija pri Bači and trains with KK Soške Elektrarne. Alja is coached by 1992 Olympian Borut Javornik. Kozorog won a bronze medal in the C1 team event at the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in London.
