These are the results of the men's C-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The C-1 (canoe single) event is raced by one-man canoes through a whitewater course. Slalom Canoeing
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. History Canoe slalom racing started in Switzerland in 1933, initially on a flatwater course. Juraj Minčík (born 27 March 1977 in Spišská Stará Ves) is a Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1993 to 2008, specializing in the C1 event. He competed at two Summer Olympics and won a bronze medal in the C1 event in Sydney in 2000, where he shared the podium with his fellow Slovak Michal Martikán. Mark Delaney (born 13 July 1964 in Cambridge) is a British whitewater slalom canoeist who competed from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s.
