Canoeing At The 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom C-1
The women's C-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2024 Summer Olympics took place on 30 and 31 July 2024 at the National Olympic Nautical Stadium of Île-de-France in Vaires-sur-Marne. Background This was the second appearance of the event after the inaugural edition in 2020. Qualification Competition format Slalom canoeing uses a three-round format, with heats, semifinal, and final. In the heats, each canoeist has two runs at the course with the better time counting. The top 18 advance to the semifinal. In the semifinal, the canoeists get a single run; the top 10 advance to the final. The best time in the single-run final wins gold. The canoe course is approximately 250 metres long, with up to 25 gates that the canoeist must pass in the correct direction. Penalty time is added for infractions such as passing on the wrong side or touching a gate. Runs typically last approximately 95 seconds. Luka Božič
Luka Božič (born 9 January 1991) is a Slovenian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. He started out as a C2 paddler partnering Sašo Taljat in the boat until the C2 event was discontinued in 2017. Since 2013 he has been competing internationally in C1. He won seven medals at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two golds (C2: 2014, C1 team: 2022), a silver (C1 team: 2018) and four bronzes (C1: 2019, C2: 2009, C1 team: 2014, 2015). He also won 11 medals (4 golds, 4 silvers and 3 bronzes) at the European Championships. Božič won the overall world cup title in the C1 class in 2023, becoming the first Slovenian to do so in single canoe. Lukáš Rohan
Lukáš Rohan (; born 30 May 1995) is a Czech slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2010. He is from Mělník, Czech Republic but lives and trains in Prague. Lukáš now competes solely in the C1 discipline, however he competed in the C2 discipline alongside Adam Svoboda and Martin Říha at different times between 2010 and 2015. He is coached by his father, Olympic silver medallist Jiří Rohan. Rohan won a silver medal in the C1 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He also won a silver medal in the C1 team event at the 2021 World Championships in Bratislava. He won four medals (3 silvers and 1 bronze) at the European Championships, including a silver medal in the C1 event at the 2020 European Championships in Prague. Vojtěch Heger
Vojtěch Heger (born 23 August 2000) is a Czech slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2016. Heger competes in the C1 class and in kayak slalom, having initially competed in C2 alongside his older brother Tomáš and later with Antonie Galušková. Heger began paddling with KVS Hradec Králové in 2005, following his mother and brother into the sport. He moved to Brandýs nad Labem in 2015 and then to Prague, home of the Prague-Troja Canoeing Centre. He is currently studying physical education at Charles University. He won a silver medal in the C1 team event at the 2021 World Championships in Bratislava alongside Lukáš Rohan and Václav Chaloupka, ending a seven year drought for the Czech Republic in C1M events at the World Championships. Matija Marinić
Matija Marinić (born 24 December 1990) is a Croatian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. Matija competed in the C1 event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing 11th. He is from Zagreb and is coached by 1992 Olympian Stjepan Perestegi. Personal life Matija married Tea Budimir, a physiotherapist, in 2016 and has a child named Marko. He is from Rijeka on the Kvarner Gulf and currently lives in Croatia's capital city, Zagreb. He completes most of his training on the Sava River in his home town but spends a significant proportion of his time at the Tacen Whitewater Course in nearby Ljubljana, making it somewhat of a home course for him and other Croatian slalom canoeists. Liam Jegou
Liam Jegou (; born 9 January 1996) is an Irish slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2011. He is based in France but competes for Ireland. He competes in C1 individually and also competed in C2 with Cade Ryan from 2012 to 2014. Jegou was born in Pabu, Brittany to an Irish mother and a Breton father. For the first two years of his life, he grew up in Switzerland, before moving to Ballyvaughan, County Clare for the next five years. At the age of seven, his family relocated to Huningue, France. He won a silver medal in the C1 team event at the 2020 European Championships in Prague. Cameron "Cam" Smedley (born October 9, 1990) is a Canadian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. David Florence
David Florence (born 8 August 1982) is a retired British slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1999 to 2021. He is the 2013 and 2015 world champion in individual single canoe (C1) and 2013 champion in double canoe (C2), the latter with Richard Hounslow. Florence was the first canoeist since Charles Dussuet, sixty years earlier, to achieve the C1, C2 double at the same World Championships. Florence won silver medals at three consecutive Olympics: in the C1 in 2008 and in the C2 in 2012 and 2016 (with Richard Hounslow). He announced his retirement from the sport in May 2022.
