Canoeing At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom K-1
These are the results of the women's K-1 slalom competition in canoeing at the 2000 Summer Olympics. The K-1 (kayak single) event is raced by one-person kayaks through a Whitewater racing, whitewater course. The venue for the 2000 Olympic competition was at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium. Medalists Results Qualifying The 20 competitors each took two runs through the whitewater slalom course on 17 September. The combined score of both runs counted for the event with the top 15 advancing to the final round the following day. Final 15 competitors each took two runs through the whitewater slalom course on 18 September. The combined score of both runs counted for the event. Slalom Canoeing
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on Whitewater, river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. History Canoe slalom racing started in Switzerland in 1933, initially on a flatwater course. Canoeing At The 2000 Summer Olympics
Canoeing at the 2000 Summer Olympics was held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre for the sprint events and the Whitewater Stadium in Penrith for the canoe and kayak Slalom canoeing, slalom disciplines. The repechage rounds that ran from the 1960 to the 1996 Games were eliminated in the sprint events while qualifying rounds were added to the slalom events. Additionally, a quota system for each event was enacted, meaning each event had a limited number of competitors that could compete. A total of 16 events were contested, 12 sprint events (9 for men and 3 for women) and 4 slalom events (3 for men and 1 for women).
