Canaima National Park
Canaima National Park () is a park in south-eastern Venezuela that roughly occupies the same area as the La Gran Sabana, Gran Sabana region. It is located in Bolívar State (Venezuela), Bolívar State, reaching the borders with Brazil and Guyana. The park was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. History Canaima National Park was established on 12 June 1962. As early as 1990, the countries that participate in the Amazonian Cooperation Treaty had recommended expanding the Canaima National Park southward to connect it with Monte Roraima National Park in Brazil, with coordinated management of tourism, research and conservation. In 1994, the Canaima National Park was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Canaima Airport (; ) is an airport in Canaima, Venezuela, Canaima, a town in Canaima National Park in the state of Bolívar (state), Bolívar in Venezuela. The airport and town are next to the Carrao Rapids on the Carrao River, and downstream of Angel Falls. The Canaima VOR-DME (Ident: CMA) is located off the Runway 18 threshold. ''Canaima'' is a Venezuelan novel. It was written by Rómulo Gallegos and published in 1935. Plot The Orinoco jungle is the main character and at the same time the reason behind all of the other characters' actions. The struggle against nature and yearning for riches, dominion and power are the main themes in the novel. ''Canaima'' represents a bitter struggle against caudillism. Its author depicts the jungle from an ideological standpoint, which translates into his characters' development. Marcos Vargas, returns to Ciudad Bolívar after his studies in Trinidad, finally settling by the waters of Yuruari river. Characters * Marcos Vargas: A teenager with an adventurous spirit. Canaima GNU/Linux is a Free and open-source software, free and open-source Linux distribution that is based on the architecture of Debian. It was created as a solution to cover the needs of the Venezuelan Government as a response to presidential decree 3,390 that prioritizes the use of free and open source technologies in the public administration. On 14 March 2011, Canaima was officially established as the default operating system for the Venezuelan public administration. The operating system has gained a strong foothold and is one of the most used Linux distributions in Venezuela, largely because of its incorporation in public schools. It is being used in large scale projects as "Canaima Educativo", a project aimed at providing school children with a basic laptop computer with educational software nicknamed Magallanes.
