The California Army National Guard (CA ARNG) is one of three components of the California National Guard, a reserve of the United States Army, and part of the United States National Guard, National Guard of the United States. The California Army National Guard is composed of 18,450 soldiers. Nationwide, the Army National Guard comprises approximately one half of the US Army's available combat forces and approximately one third of its support organization. National coordination of various state National Guard units are maintained through the National Guard Bureau. Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
Shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) are distinctive cloth patches worn on the left sleeve of the United States Army uniform just below the shoulder seam by soldiers assigned to divisions, corps, armies, and other specifically authorized organizations. They are also worn on the right sleeve by soldiers to indicate former overseas service with certain units during periods of U.S. military operations in hostile conditions (MOHC). Versions Colored Shoulder sleeve insignia were often designed with intricate designs including bright colors, when created. The 160th Infantry Regiment (Seventh California) is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry is a light infantry component of the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (United States)
The 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is a modular infantry brigade of the United States Army and the California Army National Guard. Formed in 1917 from units of the San Diego City Guard, it served on the Western Front in the First World War and was disbanded in 1919, a year after the conflict ended. It was active again from 1921-1942 during the early days of the Second World War, and from that point onward remained dormant. In late 2008, the 40th Infantry Brigade Combat Team was redesignated the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team without changing its composition, inheriting the original unit's lineage. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures.
