California's 13th congressional district is a California's congressional districts, congressional district in the U.S. state of California. Adam Gray, a Democratic Party (United States), Democrat, has represented this district since January 2025. In the 2022 redistricting cycle, the district was moved to the San Joaquin Valley, while the old 13th district was renumbered as the 12th. The new 13th district includes all of Merced County, California, Merced County; most of the population of Madera County, California, Madera County; and parts of Stanislaus County, California, Stanislaus, Fresno County, California, Fresno, and San Joaquin County, California, San Joaquin counties. California's 13th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of California. Adam Gray, a Democrat, has represented this district since January 2025. In the 2022 redistricting cycle, the district was moved to the San Joaquin Valley, while the old 13th district was renumbered as the 12th. The new 13th district includes all of Merced County; most of the population of Madera County; and parts of Stanislaus, Fresno, and San Joaquin counties. It includes the cities of Merced, Madera, Ceres, Patterson, Lathrop, Chowchilla, Atwater, Coalinga, and Mendota; as well as the southern parts of both Modesto and Turlock. Chowchilla, California
Chowchilla is a city in Madera County, California, United States. The city's population was 19,039 at the 2020 census. Chowchilla is located northwest of Madera, at an elevation of . The city is the location of two prisons: Central California Women's Facility and Valley State Prison. History The word "Chowchilla" is an anglicized spelling of ''chaushila'', the name of an indigenous Yokuts people who, historically, inhabited the areas in and around Madera County. The first post office at Chowchilla opened in 1912 and the city incorporated eleven years later, in 1923. 1976 bus kidnapping Chowchilla made national news on July 15, 1976, when 26 children and their school bus driver were kidnapped and held in a buried moving van at a quarry in Livermore, California. Turlock is a city in Stanislaus County, California, United States. Its population was 72,740 at the 2020 United States census, making it the second-largest city in Stanislaus County after Modesto.
