Calendar (American TV Program)
''Calendar'' is a weekday news and information daytime program aimed at women that aired in the United States on CBS Television from 1961 to 1963. The program was co-hosted by Harry Reasoner and Mary Fickett. Madeline Amgott, who became one of the first women to produce television news during the 1950s and 1960s, helped create the show. CBS scheduled the half-hour program in the 10 a.m. timeslot on the East Coast. Since the network then believed women were the primary audience for daytime television, it created a substantive information program geared toward a female audience. Each show began with Reasoner giving a summary of the latest news and then introducing the topic for the day, which was presented by Fickett. Harry Reasoner
Harry Reasoner (April 17, 1923 – August 6, 1991) was an American journalist for CBS and American Broadcasting Company, ABC ABC News (United States), News, known for his adroit use of language as a television commentator and as one of the original hosts of the news magazine ''60 Minutes'' (1968–1970, 1978–1991). Over the course of his career, Reasoner won three Emmy Awards and a George Foster Peabody Award in 1967. Early life Reasoner was born on First Street North in Dakota City, Iowa, Dakota City, Iowa; he and his older sister, Esther, were the children of Eunice (Nicholl) and Harry Ray Reasoner, who married in 1911. Mary Fickett
Mary Fickett (May 23, 1928 – September 8, 2011) was an American actress with roles in the American television dramas ''The Nurses'' and ''The Edge of Night'' as Sally Smith (1961) and Dr. Katherine Lovell (1967–68). She was best known as Ruth Parker Brent Martin on ''All My Children'', a role she played from 1970–1996 (briefly reprising the role from 1999–2000). Early life and career Fickett was born in Buffalo, New York and raised in Bronxville, a suburb of New York City. She attended Wheaton College in Massachusetts, and made her theatrical debut in 1946 on Cape Cod. In 1949, she made her Broadway debut appearing in ''I Know My Love'', a comedy starring Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne. Fickett studied acting at New York City's Neighborhood Playhouse under Sanford Meisner and started her television career working on "Television Theatre" programs like Kraft Television Theatre in the 1950s. Madeline Amgott
Madeline Rochelle Amgott (August 31, 1921 – July 19, 2014) was an American television news producer. A pioneer of early television news, Amgott was one of the first, and only, women to produce television news shows during the mid-1950s and 1960s. Life Amgott was born Madeline Rochelle Barotz on August 31, 1921, in the Bronx, New York. She graduated from Brooklyn College. Amgott worked at the Washington D.C. bureau of '' The San Diego Union'' before moving back to New York City. In 1955, she joined the staff of CBS News. Amgott helped create ''Calendar'', CBS daytime show aimed at women, which was hosted by Harry Reasoner and Mary Fickett from 1961 to 1963.
