CIFSD
KSMBD is an open-source software, open-source in-kernel CIFS/Server Message Block, SMB server created by Namjae Jeon for the Linux kernel. Initially the goal is to provide improved file I/O performance, but the bigger goal is to have some new features which are much easier to develop and maintain inside the kernel and expose the layers fully. Directions can be attributed to sections where Samba (software), Samba is moving to a few modules inside the kernel to have features like Remote direct memory access (RDMA) to work with actual performance gain. DCE/RPC
DCE/RPC, short for "Distributed Computing Environment / Remote Procedure Calls", is the remote procedure call system developed for the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE). This system allows programmers to write distributed software as if it were all working on the same computer, without having to worry about the underlying network code. History DCE/RPC was commissioned by the Open Software Foundation in a "Request for Technology" (1993 David Chappell). Remote Direct Memory Access
In computing, remote direct memory access (RDMA) is a direct memory access from the memory of one computer into that of another without involving either one's operating system. This permits high-throughput, low- latency networking, which is especially useful in massively parallel computer clusters. Overview RDMA supports zero-copy networking by enabling the network adapter to transfer data from the wire directly to application memory or from application memory directly to the wire, eliminating the need to copy data between application memory and the data buffers in the operating system. Such transfers require no work to be done by CPUs, caches, or context switches, and transfers continue in parallel with other system operations. This reduces latency in message transfer.
