Ballets By Jules Perrot
Jules-Joseph Perrot (18 August 181029 August 1892) was a French dancer and choreographer who later became Ballet Master of the Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg, Russia. He created some of the most famous ballets of the 19th century including ''Pas de Quatre'', '' La Esmeralda'', '' Ondine'', and ''Giselle'' with Jean Coralli. From dancer to balletmaster The Lyon-born Perrot danced often with Marie Taglioni but their partnership was short-lived. She eventually refused to dance with him fearing that he would outshine her. He left the Opéra in 1835 to tour European dance centers such as London, Milan, Vienna and Naples, where he met and noticed the talent of Carlotta Grisi. Giacomo Panizza
Giacomo Panizza (27 March 1804 – 1 May 1860) was the Maestro al Cembalo at La Scala, Milan , and conductor at the Covent Garden Theatre, London. He was born in Castellazzo Bormida and died in Milan. He is primarily noted for the ballet ''Faust'', composed for La Scala with choreography by Jules Perrot. ''Faust'' became a popular ballet in Europe, especially in Saint Petersburg. He also fathered Achille Panizza, who was another well-known conductor. Early life and education Panizza was baptized Giacomo Maria Panizza to Francesco Maria Panizza and Anna Maria Merli. ''Catarina ou la Fille du bandit'' is a ballet in three acts and four scenes, with libretto and choreography by Jules Perrot and music by Cesare Pugni. Lucile Grahn
Lucile Alexia Grahn-Young (30 June 1819 – 4 April 1907) was the first internationally renowned Danish people, Danish ballerina and one of the popular dancers of the Romantic ballet era. Grahn studied from a young age at the Royal Danish Theatre, Royal Danish Theatre School in Copenhagen, Denmark under the tutelage of August Bournonville. She officially debuted in 1834 at the theater and took on the leading role of Astrid in Bournonville's ''Valdemar (ballet), Valdemar'' in 1835. Soon the relationship between Bournonville and Grahn began to sour as she yearned to dance with the famed Paris Opera Ballet. Grahn reportedly changed some of the steps in ''Valdemar'' to show off her footwork, prompting Bournonville to make a formal complaint to the theatre directors.
