The Australian Open in badminton is an international open held in Australia. In 2011, it was upgraded to a Grand Prix Gold level event. Between 2014 and 2017, the Australian Open was promoted to a Super Series event. Daniel A. Shirley (born 13 April 1979) is a male badminton player from New Zealand. Career Shirley competed in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics in mixed doubles with partner Sara Petersen. Razif Sidek
Mohamed Razif Mohd Sidek (born 29 May 1962) is a former badminton player from Malaysia and coach. Personal life He is the second eldest of the five Sidek brothers. Razif and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Haji Mohd Sidek. Razif Sidek is one of the alumni of Victoria Institution (batch 1975–1980). He is married to a former model, Khalidah Khalid and the couple has five children. In addition, his youngest son, Mohd Fazriq is also active in badminton. He became a grandfather in December 2018, after one of his children became a first-time parent. Career His regular partner is his younger brother, Jalani. Mohamed Jalani Mohd Sidek (born 10 November 1963) is a Malaysian former badminton player and coach. Personal life He is the third eldest of the five Sidek brothers. Jalani and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Haji Mohammed Sidek. In addition, he is also one of the alumnus of Victoria Institution (batch 1977–1982). Jalani was previously married to a Malaysian film producer, Raja Azmi (born 1959) of the Perak royal family on 23 December 1984 and the couple had three children namely Puteri Suraya (born 1987), Puteri Suhaida (born 1989) dan Megat Deli (born 1994). Lucia Francisca "Susi" Susanti Haditono (; born 11 February 1971) is an Indonesian retired badminton player. Relatively small of stature, she combined quick and graceful movement with elegant shotmaking technique, and is regarded by many as one of the greatest women's singles players of all time. She was the inaugural Olympic women's badminton champion and the first Indonesian Olympic gold medalist. Career Susanti won the women's singles gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain and the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, United States. Ardy Bernardus Wiranata (born 10 February 1970) is an Indonesian-born Canadian former badminton player who rated among the top singles players in the world (several of whom were fellow Indonesians) during most of the 1990s. Career Quick, supple, and powerful, he won numerous international events and arguably had the best overall record of any player in the first half of the decade. Born in Jakarta, Wiranata trained at the PB Djarum. Gordon Lang (badminton)
Gordon Lang (25 February 1893 – 20 June 1981) was a Welsh Congregationalist minister and Labour Party politician. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Oldham from 1929 until 1931, and for Stalybridge and Hyde from 1945 until 1951. He was related to his namesake, Cosmo Gordon Lang, who was Archbishop of Canterbury at the time Gordon Lang was first elected to parliament. Lang was born in Monmouth, and attended the town's grammar school and Cheshunt College. BWF World Tour
The BWF World Tour is a Grade 2 badminton tournament series, sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). It is a competition open to the top world ranked players in singles (men's and women's) and doubles (men's, women's and mixed). The competition was announced on 19 March 2017 and came into effect starting from 2018, replacing the BWF Super Series, which was held from 2007 to 2017. The BWF World Tour are divided into six levels, namely World Tour Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500, and Super 300 in order (part of the HSBC World Tour). One other category of tournament, the BWF Tour Super 100 level, also offers ranking points. BWF Super Series
The BWF Super Series was a series of Badminton World Federation#Grade 2, Grade 2 badminton tournaments, sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). It was launched on December 14, 2006 and implemented in 2007 in badminton, 2007. Since 2011, the Super Series includes two levels of tournament, Super Series Premier and Super Series. A season of Super Series featured twelve tournaments around the world, including five of them classified as Super Series Premier. Super Series Premier tournament offers higher ranking point and higher minimum total prize money. Top eight players/pairs in each discipline in Super Series standings are invited to the BWF Super Series Finals, Super Series Finals held at the year end.
